chapter 12
Marcus frowned when he heard what Jessica just said. She wanted Damien fired?
Damien stepped forward, his face tight. “You have no right to order that I should be fired,” he snapped.
Jessica did not reply immediately. She slipped her hand into her bag and pulled out a card. A Red Dragon Restaurant exclusive card. Only customers who had spent over ten million dollars ever received
one.
The manager’s throat went dry. Someone like her could cause serious problems.
Jessica lifted her chin. “I am also the lady of the Morgan family, and the CEO of Vortex World.”
The manager’s jaw dropped. Just as he thought. This woman was not someone to offend.
“I want him sacked,” Jessica said again.
The manager swallowed. It was obvious he would obey.
Marcus stared at her, disbelief clear on his face. “Jessica… you know Damien is my friend, right? This is what feeds him, and you are going to take that from him? You didn’t even think about me before making
that decision.”
A flicker of guilt crossed Jessica’s face, but it vanished almost instantly.
“Damien is not a real friend,” she said coldly. “Didn’t you hear what he said about us? He’s been trying to come between us and damage our relationship. He keeps stirring conflict. That’s not what a true friend
does.”
Marcus folded his arms slowly. “Oh… so this is about him being a threat to our relationship?”
She nodded.
Marcus let out a dry laugh. “Then what about Travis? Damien wasn’t the one who made you stand me up at city hall nine times. Travis always had an excuse whenever we tried to register our marriage. If anyone is the train running between us, it’s him.”
He pointed at Travis. “He’s the one destroying us.”
Jessica stiffened.
“Yet he’s always with you,” Marcus continued. “You always have time for him, not me. But you are punishing Damien because you think he’s the problem. What a hypocrite.”
Jessica clenched her fists. “Stop insulting me, and stop painting Travis as the bad guy. Travis is worth keeping around. He supports me. Many times, he’s spoken well of you and even advised me on how to
make us work.”
She glanced at Damien with disdain. “But your useless friend here? He’s just a lowlife, a dirty, ragged waiter who should know when to keep his mouth shut.”

Damien’s eyes turned red. He looked away, trying not to shed tears.

Marcus just stood there, watching Jessica, realizing how horrible she had became.
Jessica continued, “And to show how useful Travis is, he just got an invitation to the Langston party. Do you even know what that is? The Langston family. Something your friend could never even dream of.”
Travis smiled proudly.
Marcus raised a brow. “The Langston family? The very Langston family?”
“Of course,” Jessica said. “Are you shocked? That’s how important Travis is in my life.”
Marcus turned to Travis. “You are really invited? How?”
Travis smirked. “I know you are shocked, but I have no obligation to explain anything to you. It’s beyond your comprehension.”
Marcus almost laughed. He knew Travis was lying. That invitation… he had prepared it himself as a surprise for Jessica. Travis must have gotten hold of it somehow.
Marcus finally spoke. “The Langston family, huh? We’ll see about that.”
Travis sneered. “There’s nothing to see. I will always be better than you. You are just an orphan with no
background.”
Jessica nudged him slightly, but she didn’t correct him.
“I still stand by my decision,” she said. “I want him fired.”
She wanted Marcus to beg. She wanted control.
The manager turned to Damien. “You left your post for a stranger and insulted a VIP customer. You are
fired.”
Damien’s chest tightened. This job fed his family. He almost begged…
But Marcus spoke first.
“Damien, let’s go. Pack your things. Everything will be alright.”
Jessica’s voice rose. “Marcus! You don’t always have to be this proud. If you apologize, I will let this go.”
Marcus looked at her calmly. “I would rather count every grain of sand than apologize.”
Jessica scoffed. “You two are nothing but poor church rats, and now you are acting stubborn. don’t you care if your friend lose his job”
Marcus shook his head. “I’m not a church rat. And soon… you will understand. Maybe at that Langston party you keep talking about.”
He took Damien’s hand and walked out.

Jessica frowned, confused by his words, but anger burned too strongly for her to think clearly.
Travis leaned closer to her. “It’s time you forget about that guy. You won’t regret it. He is just an asswipe”
“Don’t I say that about him… please,” Jessica murmured. Regret began to creep in. she felt guilty of what she just done. sacking Damien.
