Chapter 114

Jessica was shocked by what she had just heard. Did someone just say he would kill Marcus? She listened carefully again.

“Okay, boss. I’ll frame it as a hit-and-run, and no one will find out,” the man said again.

Jessica gasped and immediately covered her mouth so she would not make a sound. Seeing that the man would be out any minute, she quickly rushed away.

Meanwhile, the man stepped out and looked around, confirming that no one had heard him.

Jessica immediately dashed to where Marcus had been before, but he had already left.

Jessica staggered back, shaking her head as panic clawed at her chest.

“No… no… no… Marcus… no…” she mumbled under her breath, her voice trembling badly.

Travis, who had been standing nearby, immediately noticed the way she looked like all the blood had drained from her face. He rushed toward her, frowning deeply.

“Jessica, what’s going on?” he asked, grabbing her lightly by the arm. “Why are you talking about Marcus? Did he do something? What happened?”

Jessica snapped her head toward him, her breathing uneven and frantic. Her eyes were wide with fear.

“They’re going to kill him!” she blurted.

Travis froze.

“What?”

Jessica was already pacing, her hands clutching her hair as if she was trying to stop her thoughts from exploding.” They are going to kill Marcus,” she repeated, her voice rising. “I have to tell him. Oh God, I have to tell him right

now.”

Travis stared at her in complete confusion. “Kill him? Jessica, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”

But Jessica did not even bother trying to explain. There was no time for explanations.

The only thing in her mind was Marcus. Marcus was in danger, and if she wasted even one more second standing here, something terrible could happen before she reached him.

Her trembling fingers immediately dug into her bag, and she pulled out her phone. She nearly dropped it because of how badly her hands were shaking. Her heartbeat pounded so violently in her ears that it almost drowned out everything else around her.

“Pick up… pick up…” she whispered as she scrolled quickly through her contacts and hit Marcus’s number.

Meanwhile, inside a taxi already moving through the busy road, Marcus sat at the back with Betty beside him.

The driver kept his eyes on the road while Marcus leaned back against the seat, looking calm.

Beside him, Betty lowered her eyes and slowly brought out the necklace. She held it carefully in both hands before turning to Marcus and extending it toward him.

“Take,” she said softly. “I’m very grateful.”

Marcus looked down at the necklace but did not collect it. Instead, he frowned slightly and looked at her.

“Why are you returning it?” he asked.

Betty bit her lower lip and gently pushed the necklace closer to him. “You only gave it to help me so I could stand among the others,” she said. “And you made that happen. I’m really grateful, Marcus, I am. But I don’t think I can collect something this expensive.”

Marcus remained silent, watching her.

Betty swallowed and continued, her voice smaller now. “This necklace is worth over five million. I’m scared just holding it. I don’t even know how you got something like this. What if something happens to you because of it”.

Marcus let out a scoff, clearly unimpressed by her argument. He shifted slightly in his seat and looked at her as though she was being unnecessarily dramatic.

“It’s just a necklace,” he said.

Betty quickly shook her head. “No, it’s not just a necklace. Not to me.” She forced the necklace into his hand again and looked at him earnestly. “Please. I’m grateful, but I can’t take it. I’m scared.”

Marcus looked like he was about to argue again, but before he could say anything, his phone suddenly rang.

Marcus reached into his pocket and brought it out. The moment he looked at the screen and saw Jessica’s name, his expression changed slightly. His brows drew together, and then he let out a faint sigh.

He had unblocked her number.

For a moment, he just stared at the screen while the phone kept ringing in his hand. Betty noticed the way his expression shifted but said nothing.

Marcus already knew Jessica too well. In his mind, there was only one reason she would be calling him now. To cause more trouble.

He could already imagine her trying to create another problem after everything that had happened.

So instead of answering, Marcus simply looked away and let the phone ring.

Back where she was, Jessica held the phone tightly to her ear, nearly shaking with panic.

“Pick up… pick up… pick up…” she whispered desperately.

Travis was fed up and leaned in, “who is trying to kill him. i told you, that bastard would cause big trouble one day”

Jessica didn’t bother answering.

But inside the taxi, Marcus ignored the call completely.

A few seconds later, the ringing stopped.

Jessica stared at her phone with horror. Then, without wasting even a second, her fingers flew across the screen as she typed a message as fast as she could. Her chest was rising and falling hard, and Travis could only stand there, watching her like he had no idea what was happening.

The moment she finished typing, she sent it immediately.

Inside the taxi, Marcus’s phone buzzed in his hand.
