chapter 147
Mr. Smith sat comfortably at the sea dock, watching his men load the last of his belongings onto the boat. He had scammed so many people over the past months, and now he was ready to disappear with everything he had taken.
One of his men stood beside him, cracking jokes and pouring him drink after drink, trying to keep his mood light. Smith laughed loudly at every joke, grinning from ear to ear, occasionally pulling out wads of cash and spraying it into the air just to watch his men scramble for it.
It was already night, and the dock was quiet except for the sound of waves and the distant hum of the boat’s engine being prepared. The police had not caught wind of his location, and that alone was enough to make him feel untouchable. He leaned back in his chair, sipping his drink, convinced that by morning he would be far away, out of reach of anyone who wanted to hold him accountable.
After a few more minutes, one of his men walked over and said, “Sir, we can go now. Everything is ready.”
Smith stood up, adjusted his jacket, and smiled at his own reflection in a nearby window. He turned to his men and said, “You see how smart I am? Nobody can catch me. Once we get to Asia, I will spend my money well. I will get myself some beautiful Asian girls and live like a king.”
His men laughed along with him, feeding his ego further. He took a step toward the boat, ready to leave everything behind.
Just then, a voice cut through the night. “No. You will spend your days in prison.”
Smith froze and turned around. Standing a few feet away were a man and a woman he did not recognize at first. He squinted through the dim light and frowned. “Who the hell are you people?”
Marcus stepped forward, his expression calm but firm. “Well, the name of the ones you have been using
to scam!”
Smith’s face changed instantly. “What?… The Langstones?”
“Good, you remember,” Marcus said. “Now surrender yourself. It will be easier for everyone.”
For a moment, Smith looked rattled, but then his old arrogance returned. He threw his head back and laughed, the sound echoing across the dock. “So it’s just the two of you who came? You must think very little of me. you think i haven’t prepare for this?”
He raised a hand and snapped his fingers. Within seconds, men appeared from different angles around the dock, rifles raised, surrounding Marcus and Natalie from every direction. Smith’s grin widened as he watched their expressions.
“You are the ones who should be backing away,” he said, his voice dripping with mockery. “Or else I will have no choice but to kill you both right here.”
Natalie’s hand instinctively moved toward her side, but she stayed calm, waiting for Marcus’s lead. Marcus did not flinch. He kept his eyes locked on Smith

Not far from the scene, hidden behind a stack of crates, Travis watched everything unfold. His heart pounded as he took in the sight of the armed men surrounding Marcus and Natalie.
Travis peeked from behind the crates, and his eyes went wide. He sniffled and whispered to himself,” Isn’t that Mr. Smith? Fuck yeah, it’s him. I caught you.”
His mind raced as he thought about why Marcus and Natalie were there. He assumed Marcus must have asked Natalie for help to track Smith down, probably for Jessica’s sake.
A plan quickly formed in his head. If he could get to Smith before they did, or at least make it look like his doing, he could use it to win his way back into Jessica’s good graces. He groaned quietly and muttered, I have to be smart about this.”
He pulled out his phone and called the police first. He kept his voice urgent and clear. “I just saw a scammer on the dock. He’s trying to run away. It’s the popular scammer, Mr. Smith.” The officer on the line told him they were already on their way.
Travis said nothing about Marcus or Natalie being present. He wanted this to look like his discovery
alone.
Next, he called Jessica. “I found him,” he said. “Mr. Smith. He’s at the dock, trying to escape by boat.” He repeated the same story he gave the police, framing himself as the only one who had tracked Smith down. “Come quickly, I’ll try to hold him off until you get here.”
Jessica’s voice brightened instantly, and she said she would be on her way with the police after Travis told her the location.
Back at the dock, Marcus scoffed at Smith’s threat and said, “I didn’t plan on going easy on you, but you’re making this even easier.”
At that exact moment, a low thudding sound began to fill the air. Tk tk tk tk.
A helicopter appeared above them, its spotlight sweeping across the dock before locking onto Smith and his men. The wind from its blades kicked up dust and sea spray, forcing everyone to shield their eyes.
Then came the screeching of tires. Screech, screech, screech. Cars rushed in from every possible angle, surrounding the dock completely.
Doors flew open, and armed men poured out, moving with practiced precision. Their gear was sophisticated, vests, helmets, weapons far more advanced than anything Smith’s own men carried
Smith’s grin vanished. His confidence crumbled as he looked around and realized he was now the one outnumbered.
His men shifted nervously, guns still raised but hands visibly shaking.
From the helicopter above, a voice boomed through a loudspeaker. “You are surrounded. You are under arrest. Drop your weapons now. If you do not comply within the next few seconds, we will open fire.”
