Chapter 197
At that moment, Cory’s phone began vibrating again.
He stared at the screen, his hands trembling slightly. Another call was coming in, this time from The COO, Ms Natalie. With a growing sense of dread, he answered.
“Hello?”
“Mr. Cory. I hope you read your message, I just want to affirm it for you. Our contract has end, because you breached one of our terms by bullying our staff”.
Cory’s face went pale.
“What? wait, I am sorry”
“Late for that”, Natalie said, and the call ended shortly afterward.
Cory stood completely still.
For years, his company had worked with Langstone Group. It was their most important partnership, responsible for a significant portion of their revenue and reputation. Losing it wasn’t merely embarrassing. It could seriously damage the entire company. And it had happened immediately after Marcus told him to worry about his career.
Cory slowly raised his head.
His eyes were filled with disbelief and anger.
“How the fuck…?”
He suddenly stepped toward Marcus.
“Are you the one behind this?” he demanded. “What did you do? What the hell did you tell them?”
Marcus merely looked at him calmly.
Before he could answer, another voice came from behind.
“I assume you’ve already received the message.”
He turned.
Mr. Thomas was walking toward them, his expression calm and professional.
He stopped beside Marcus and glanced at Cory.
“Thank you for your time with Langstone.”
Cory’s heart sank. It was true.He had really been removed.
Cory swallowed hard. His arrogance from earlier had completely disappeared.
“Mr. Thomas, wait.” His voice became noticeably softer. “I’m sorry about what happened tonight. I admit that I handled the situation badly. If I offended anyone, I’m truly sorry.”
Thomas shook his head.
“You don’t need to apologize to me now.”

Cory’s expression tightened.
“You should have begun with that before everything escalated,” Thoms continued.
He gave Cory a cold look. “Now that arrogance has cost you.”
Cory clenched his fists.
Marcus stood nearby with a faint smirk.
Seeing that expression made Cory even more furious. He didn’t want to suffer this humiliation in front of Marcus and Ms. Leah.
His face twisted with rage. “You know what?” he snarled. “Fuck you. Fuck everything about you. I’ll make sure you regret this. I swear I will.”
He turned sharply. “Let’s go!” Ms. Leah could only gulp before quietly following him.
Once they disappeared through the doors, Thomas looked toward Marcus and smiled. “Sorry for the inconvenience, boss.”
Marcus waved his hand dismissively. “It’s nothing.”
Before they could continue, Betty walked over with a confused expression.
“What happened? He looked really upset.”
Marcus glanced toward the exit. “He got what he deserved.”
Betty frowned. She clearly had no idea what Marcus meant.
Meanwhile, outside the banquet hall, someone else had been watching everything from a distance. Hades stood beneath the dim lights of the parking area, his eyes fixed on Marcus.
He had been monitoring him for some time.
From the moment Marcus arrived, Hades had noticed the ordinary clothes, the simple appearance, and the way Marcus deliberately behaved like an insignificant member of the staff.
Everything about him screamed ordinary.
Hades had therefore assumed that Marcus was nobody important.
But his cultivation was another matter entirely.
Hades narrowed his eyes. That level of cultivation was already enough to kill Six.
And that was precisely what troubled him.
Who knew how strong Marcus truly was?
A cold glint flashed through his eyes.
If Marcus really possessed greater strength than he had shown, confronting him directly would be foolish.
He needed to find a decisive way to kill Marcus before Marcus realized that someone was hunting him.

That evening, after leaving the banquet, Marcus returned home and found that he had used almost all the energy stored inside the gemstone. It wasn’t much to begin with, but he knew how useful it could become if he needed to level up.
He couldn’t afford to run out completely. With that thought in mind, Marcus decided to visit Sapphire’s shop.
By the time he arrived, however, he immediately sensed that something was wrong. The moment he stepped through the entrance, a loud crash came from inside.
Marcus’s eyes narrowed.
The shop was a mess.
Several shelves had been knocked over, boxes were scattered across the floor, and various items had been thrown everywhere. In the middle of the chaos stood a young man, his face twisted with anger.
“What the heck is this?!”
He kicked a wooden display aside. “Give me the money now! Give me fucking money, or I’ll destroy everything in this place!”
Sapphire stood several feet away from him, looking frightened and exhausted. “Brother, please! Stop already. I haven’t made enough sales today. You’ve already taken almost everything I made. It’s not fair.”
Smack!
The slap echoed through the shop.
Sapphire stumbled sideways, one hand immediately covering her cheek.
“Unfair?”
Her brother glared at her.”You fucking ungrateful bitch. You don’t deserve any of this to begin with. I’m your brother, so everything you make belongs to me!”
Marcus’s expression immediately darkened.
He recognized Sapphire’s situation all too well. The last time he had visited this place, she had been dealing with Sancho, a man who had been harassing and molesting her. Marcus had intervened and dealt with him.
Now, another problem had appeared.
And this time, it was her own brother.
Marcus sighed inwardly.
The young man grabbed another item from the counter and raised it as though he intended to smash it.
“Give me the money!”
“Please, brother. That’s the last stock I have!”
