Chapter 207
ja’s face numédiately brightened when she saw Marcus. She smiled genuinely and took a small step forward, clearly happy to see him.
“Marcus,” she said warmly. “What are you doing here?”
Cory, however, had a completely different reaction.
The moment his eyes landed on Marcus, his expression darkened. His jaw tightened, and anger began to build inside him. Ever since their previous confrontation, he had been unable to swallow the humiliation Marcus had caused him.
Cory glanced at Natalie, then looked back at Marcus with a mocking smile,
“Well, look at this,” he said loudly. “He came here with a woman and they’re coming out of a hotel together.”
Julia’s smile disappeared.
Cory continued, his voice becoming more provocative.
“So what else are we supposed to think? He’s probably here to sleep with her,”
Julia immediately frowned. “Cory. Come on. Don’t be ridiculous. That’s a terrible thing to say.”
She looked at Marcus, and despite Cory’s accusation, she knew deep down that Marcus wasn’t the kind of man who would betray someone he cared about.
Then another thought suddenly struck her. She and Marcus weren’t even officially dating
Her heart sank slightly.
Even if Marcus really had been with another woman, what right did she have to confront him about it?
The realization made her feel unexpectedly sad.
Natalie, meanwhile, had been staring at Cory in disbelief.
“Who the hell are you to be spewing such nonsense?” she asked coldly.
Cory turned toward her.
He had no idea who she was.
Since being removed from Langstone, he had been desperately trying to find a way back into the company. He had even recorded an apology video begging the Langstone executives to reconsider his dismissal and give him another chance.
He had convinced himself that, eventually, they would recognize his value and bring him back. But he had never met Natalie before.
He had no idea that he was standing in front of the COO of Langstone.
Cory scoffed. “Who am I?” he said. “I’m simply saying what everyone can see. A man and a woman are coming out of a hotel together at this time of day, and you’re telling me there’s nothing going on?”
He spread his hands dramatically. “Please. Make it make sense.”
Julia stared at him in disbelief. “Cory, drop it. Why are you doing this?”

!
But Cory was too angry to listen.
Marcus had barely said anything, yet that somehow made Cory even more irritated.
Marcus finally gave him a faint smirk.
“You’re still angry about what happened the other day, aren’t you?”
Cory’s expression changed.
Marcus continued calmly.
“You thought I ruined your partnership with Langstone, and you deserved what happened. Someone like you has no business being associated with Langstone in the first place.”
Cory’s face immediately reddened. “Look at this ordinary staff member talking as if he’s some big shot.””
He pointed at Marcus.
“You think you’re important because you managed to cause some trouble for me? Don’t flatter yourself. I’m already working my way back into Langstone.”
He laughed confidently. “With time, they’ll see my value and accept me back. Unlike you, I actually have something to offer.”
Julia’s eyes narrowed.
That was when she finally realized there was more to the situation.
Marcus and Cory had some kind of conflict involving Langstone, and apparently Cory had suffered because of it.
But there was another problem.
Julia could tell Cory still had absolutely no idea who Natalie was.
She was almost tempted to warn him.
But before she could say anything, Marcus simply ignored Cory.
He turned toward Julia.
“Let’s meet tomorrow,” he said. “At your house, okay?”
Julia blinked.
Her heart skipped slightly.
“Tomorrow?”
Marcus nodded.
“Yeah. I have something I want to discuss with you.”
Before Julia could respond, Cory suddenly interrupted.
“What an embarrassment.”
Cory looked between Marcus and Natalie with a sneer.
“You’re asking her out while you’re here with your slut?”

Julia’s eyes widened. “Cory!” Natalie’s expression changed instantly.
stared at him for several seconds, her eyes cold.
“Call me that again.”
Cory laughed.
“What? You didn’t hear me?”
Natalie took one step toward him.
