The Disguised Billionaire She Rejected novel Chapter 24

chapter 24

Julia stepped forward before the guards could move any closer.

“This will be nothing but harassment,” she said firmly. “If you have clear evidence, then you can check him. Otherwise you have no right to touch him.”

The guards exchanged looks. One of them nodded slowly. “She is right. Without evidence, searching him would be pure harassment.”

A few people in the crowd murmured in agreement.

Jordan frowned, irritated. “Him being a poor, out-of-place man doesn’t tell you enough that he is the one?”

Julia turned to him sharply. “Why are you so stupid? accusing someone base on thier status??”

Her eyes suddenly lifted toward the ceiling. She pointed. “The CCTV. Yes. Let’s check the CCTV. It will show everything.”

At that moment, Jordan gulped. He hadn’t thought it through. He hadn’t expected anyone to suggest the

cameras.

But before his unease could grow, one of the guards cleared his throat.

“Actually, we were instructed to turn it off for the event,” he said. “So guests can have privacy. This is an elite party.”

Several people nodded. That made sense.

Jordan exhaled quietly in relief.

Julia clenched her jaw. “Then with no evidence, I will never allow you to harass him like this. You are not doing this. This is pure nonsense.”

Even Marcus looked at her, slightly surprised by how strongly she was standing her ground for him. He almost wanted to agree to it but with Julia stubbornness, he kept mute.

The crowd began whispering.

“She’s crazy.”

“Why is she defending him like that?”

Jordan seized the moment.

“Well,” he said loudly, “what about this? I witnessed when he stole it. He was the one who bumped into that lady. The ring slipped from her hand and he immediately put it in his pocket. I saw everything.”

The words hit the hall like a slap.

A wave of shock moved through the people.

“Oh… really?”

“You saw it?”

“Then why didn’t you say since morning?”

Jordan lifted his chin. “Yes, I saw everything. That’s why I said only a poor man can do this. Because I witnessed him doing it. And he is poor anyway.”

Marcus frowned slightly. “You really saw me? You’re sure of what you are saying?”

Jordan didn’t hesitate. “Yes. I saw you fucker. I’m a witness. That should count as evidence, right?”

Julia stared at him. “Why are you doing this? You are obviously lying.”

“I’m not lying,” Jordan snapped. “I know what I’m saying.”

One of the guards stepped forward. “Then we will search him. But before we do, can you live up to your statement? What if we don’t see the ring with him?”

Several people nodded.

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Fair enough.”

Jordan, so sure they would find the ring, didn’t even pause.

“In fact,” he said boldly, “what about this? I will go on my knees, apologize to him, and even crawl out of here on my knees!”

The crowd gasped.

“That confident?”

“He must have truly seen it.”

“He knows what he’s talking about.”

The guard turned to Marcus. “Do you agree to that?”

Marcus stared at Jordan for a long moment. “Yes. I agree.”

The old lady clasped her hands together. “Thank God. I’m sure the ring is with him. Make sure to check even his underpants.”

A few people chuckled nervously.

Jordan couldn’t hide the grin spreading across his face as the guards stepped closer to Marcus.

“Raise your hands,” one of them instructed.

Marcus slowly lifted his hands into the air.

The hall went quiet.

Everyone watched.

One guard stood behind him while another began the search from the top. They checked his suit jacket first, sliding their hands into both outer pockets, then the inner pockets carefully. They felt along the seams, pressing to see if anything small was hidden inside.

Nothing.

They moved to his trousers. Both pockets were turned inside out. Fingers pressed along the fabric, checking for shapes, lumps, anything unusual.

Still nothing.

The guard crouched slightly, patting along Marcus’s legs from thigh to ankle.

Jordan’s grin remained fixed still expecting them to find something.

The room was so silent that the sound of fabric being rubbed could be heard clearly. They checked his shirt, sliding hands across his chest and sides, then around his waistband again.

Everywhere possible in his body, yet, they couldn’t find anything!.

That was when Jordan started to feel uneasy.

They were supposed to find the ring.

He glanced quickly at his bodyguard. The man gave a small nod, as if to say he had truly put it in Marcus’s pocket earlier.

After a few more tense seconds, one of the guards straightened up.

“Nothing,” he announced. “We found nothing. The ring isn’t with him.”

A loud gasp swept through the hall.

“Really? What!”

Jordan’s mouth went dry. He was sure the ring was there.
