The Disguised Billionaire She Rejected novel Chapter 80

Chapter 80

Marcus stood frozen, taken aback by the woman’s sharp, condescending tone. This was their first meeting, yet she glared at him like he was vermin.

“I am an intern here,” Marcus stated politely, forcing a small smile.

The lady looked him up and down with blatant disgust, her lips curling. “An intern? Of course they’d hire just anyone these days. Look at you-sloppy clothes, no presence, probably some charity case who can’t even file papers without messing up”.

“This company is going downhill, employing useless kids like you. Pathetic.”

Marcus stood there for a moment, completely caught off guard by the woman’s attitude. He had barely stepped into the company for the first time and already someone was speaking to him like he was dirt.

He could not understand how a person could carry so much hostility toward someone they had never even met before.

Her words were sharp and humiliating, and the disgust on her face made it clear that she had judged him entirely based on his simple appearance.

Marcus slowly frowned before speaking up. “Don’t you think you are being rude? This is my first time being here and you are already having problems with me even though I have done nothing to you.”

The moment those words left his mouth the woman’s eyes widened in disbelief. She immediately stepped forward in her heels, glaring at him like she wanted to tear him apart on the spot.

“Did you just dare speak back at me?” she snapped angrily. “I swear I will make them send you away before you even start this job. You clearly do not know who you are talking to.”

Marcus looked at her calmly for a few seconds before a faint smirk appeared on his face. “I can tell you right now it will probably be the other way around.”

The woman looked genuinely shocked by his response. For a second she stared at him as though she could not believe the words she had just heard.

“You came here looking like some riff-raff and you are telling me you will make them send me away?” she said mockingly. “You must be out of your mind.”

Marcus sighed inwardly. He could already tell the woman’s problem with him had nothing to do with work or attitude. She had judged him the second she saw his plain clothes and simple appearance. It honestly amazed him how rude people could become over something so shallow.

He was about to respond again when the second lady beside them hurriedly stepped in, looking nervous:

“Ma, sorry ma,” the lady said quickly while bowing her head slightly. “He did not know who you are. He is

new here.”

The woman scoffed loudly. “So does that give him the right to talk back at me? You interns these days

seriously do not know your place.”

The other lady immediately lowered her head further. “Sorry ma. He will apologize.”

She then turned toward Marcus with a tense expression on her face.

“Apologize,” she whispered through clenched teeth while giving him a warning look.

Marcus honestly did not want to apologize. The woman was clearly the one in the wrong and he hated the idea of bowing his head to someone acting this arrogant. Still, he did not want to create a huge scene on his very first day. More importantly, he wanted to know exactly who this woman was and why everyone seemed so afraid of her.

After thinking for a moment Marcus decided to play along.

He slightly bowed his head. “Sorry ma’am.”

The woman folded her arms proudly. “Better.”

She then looked at both of them coldly before speaking again.

“Because of this little act of rudeness, you and Betty will handle the proposal together. And neither of you should go home until it is completed.”

The other lady, apparently named Betty, immediately bowed. “Okay ma.”

The woman gave one last annoyed hiss before turning around and walking away confidently, leaving Marcus standing there with a confused expression while Betty looked like she was about to cry from

stress.

Marcus watched the woman disappear into the hallway before finally turning toward the nervous lady

beside him.

“Betty, right?” he asked calmly.

The lady nodded quickly. “Yes.”

Marcus gave a small smile. “I’m Marcus.”

“Marcus, you are also an intern here right?” Betty asked carefully as though trying to confirm it once again.

Marcus nodded. “Yes.”

Betty immediately looked around cautiously before lowering her voice. “Please do yourself a big favor and make sure you never step on her bad side.”

Marcus raised an eyebrow. “Who is she exactly?”

Betty looked surprised he even had to ask.

“Our team leader,” she answered.

Marcus frowned slightly. The woman did not look old enough to hold such a position, but considering how everyone reacted around her, it clearly explained her arrogance.

Betty then leaned closer and whispered softly, almost like she was afraid someone would overhear them.

“Even though technically she is still an ordinary staff member, the brand department director personally employed her himself. A lot of people think they are both having some kind of relationship.”

Marcus’ expression darkened a little hearing that.

Betty continued in a nervous tone. “If you dare offend her, she can make you get sacked immediately. People here avoid provoking her because once she complains about you, management listens without even asking questions.”
