The Disguised Billionaire She Rejected novel Chapter 81

Chapter 81

Betty slowly groaned as her eyes fluttered open weakly. Her entire body felt numb and heavy, almost like all the strength in her bones had been drained away completely.

For a few seconds her vision remained blurry before she finally realized she was lying on a small infirmary bed inside the company clinic.

“Betty? Are you okay?”

Hearing the worried voice beside her, Betty slowly turned her head and saw Marcus sitting next to the

bed.

Betty swallowed dryly before nodding weakly. “Y-Yes… I think so.”

Marcus let out a relieved sigh. “That’s great”.

Betty slowly pushed herself up slightly while holding her forehead.

Marcus immediately spoke again. “The nurse said you were diagnosed with extreme fatigue, stress, lack of sleep, and exhaustion. She said your body practically shut down because you have been overworking yourself too much.”

Betty forced a weak smile. “I’m fine.”

“No you are not,” Marcus said seriously. “You literally fainted while standing. You should rest.”

Betty immediately shook her head and tried getting off the bed.

“No no… I still need to finish the proposal,” she muttered anxiously.

Marcus frowned deeply. “Are you serious right now? You can barely even stand properly.”

Betty still stubbornly tried to sit upright fully despite the dizziness attacking her again. Just as Marcus was about to stop her once more, the infirmary door suddenly slammed open loudly.

Janet, The team leader, stormed inside angrily with her heels clicking sharply against the floor.

“So this is where you are hiding and sleeping?” she snapped coldly.

Betty instantly became nervous and hurriedly stood up despite her weak condition.

“M-Ma’am, I am already working on it. I just had a little issue-”

“A little issue?” Janet interrupted harshly. “After I gave you a deadline you decided to come here and rest comfortably? When exactly do you plan on finishing the proposal if you keep laying around like some useless patient?”

Betty lowered her head quickly. “Sorry ma. I will continue immediately.”

“Then get the fuck up now,” Janet barked. “The COO has already started demanding for the proposal and

you are here wasting time.”

Marcus’ expression darkened immediately hearing the way she spoke to Betty.

“Ma’am,” he said calmly while trying to control himself. “With due respect, she collapsed because of overwork and fatigue. The nurse literally said she needs proper rest.”

Janet slowly turned toward him with pure irritation on her face before laughing mockingly.

“Oh please shut up. Nobody asked for your opinion.”

Marcus clenched his jaw slightly.

Janet continued cruelly, “You just resumed work today and you already think you can lecture me? Know your place before I remind you why interns like you are disposable.”

Marcus stayed silent but his eyes became colder.

Janet scoffed while looking him up and down with disgust again.

“Honestly, every time I look at you I keep wondering who even allowed someone looking this cheap into this company. You dress like a roadside mechanic and yet you somehow have the confidence to speak

in front of me.”

Betty immediately chimed in as she saw that Marcus was about to talk back.

“Ma’am sorry,” she quickly interrupted. “Please don’t be angry. We will finish the proposal today.”

Janet ignored her and continued attacking Marcus.

Marcus looked like he wanted to respond badly, but Betty secretly grabbed his sleeve tightly and shook her head desperately.

“You better! or else. count this as the last day of your job here!”.

Betty then faced Janet again and bowed slightly. “Okay ma. We will make sure it is submitted today.”

Janet stared at them coldly for a few more seconds before letting out a contemptuous hiss.

With that she turned around arrogantly and walked out of the infirmary.

Marcus looked toward the trembling Betty in disbelief. He genuinely could not understand how someone could be that cruel to a person who had literally just collapsed from exhaustion.

Marcus sighed quietly as Betty slowly forced herself off the infirmary bed again. Her legs were still weak, so he instinctively moved closer and supported her before she could stumble.

She leaned slightly on him.

Marcus glanced at her. He had already made up his mind that the way Janet treated people would not go

unanswered.
