Marcus slowly stepped forward.

“No one stressed your woman,” he said firmly. “In fact, it was quite the opposite.”

Janet instantly scoffed loudly and pointed at him again.

“Look at him. This is exactly what I was talking about,” she snapped angrily. “He is rude and always talks back. You seriously need to deal with him, Dennis.”

Dennis narrowed his eyes coldly at Marcus. The atmosphere around him suddenly became heavier.

“I think you do not value your position here,” Dennis said in a low voice filled with warning. “Should I just sack you immediately?”

Marcus frowned. “Sack me? For what exactly?”

Dennis looked slightly taken aback by the fact that Marcus still dared to question him.

Marcus continued before the man could respond. “Is this how you have been running this place? Bullying workers because of your girlfriend?”

The entire office instantly became silent.

Betty’s face lost color immediately.

Even Janet looked briefly stunned before her expression twisted into fury.

Dennis himself looked genuinely shocked for a moment. Clearly, nobody in the company ever dared speak to him like this.

Slowly, he stepped closer toward Marcus until they were almost face to face.

“Yeah,” Dennis said coldly. “That is exactly what I have been doing. So tell me, what exactly can an ordinary person like you do about it?”

Marcus stared directly into his eyes without moving.

Before the tension could explode further, Betty hurriedly stepped between them in panic.

“Sorry sir,” she said quickly while bowing her head. “He is just clueless because he is new. He does not know anything yet and is simply speaking carelessly. Please sir.”

Dennis kept staring at Marcus for several long seconds before finally scoffing.

“Well, I only came to give him a warning,” he said coldly. “There will not be a next chance. If you ever talk back to my woman again, I will personally make sure you are thrown out of this company.”

With that, Dennis turned around sharply and walked away.

Janet smirked proudly at Marcus before following behind him like someone who had just won a battle.

Marcus stayed silent.

Betty looked down before speaking again in a quieter voice.

“Sometimes you just have to endure things and play along with people like them.”

Marcus looked at her with slight surprise. He genuinely could not understand how she managed to endure such treatment daily without completely breaking down.

Still, Betty forced herself to remain professional.

“Come on,” she said softly. “Let’s finish the proposal.”
