Chapter 83
Marcus immediately stopped walking the moment he heard Janet’s furious voice echoing across the department.
“What the fuck is all this?!” Janet screamed while violently waving the proposal documents in the air.” You people spent almost an entire day working on this piece of rubbish and still had the confidence to submit it?”
The entire office had gone silent.
Workers secretly glanced over their computers while pretending to focus on work.
Betty stood frozen in front of Janet’s desk, clearly shaken by the aggression directed at her.
Janet angrily flipped through the pages before throwing some of them directly at Betty’s chest.
“No substance. No direction. Nothing useful!” Janet barked. “Do you even know what a proper branding proposal looks like? This is complete nonsense.”
Betty looked completely shocked.
“Ma…” she said nervously. “We made sure to put everything into this project. We worked on it till midnight. It’s perfect.”
Janet’s eyes widened instantly.
“Oh?” she mocked coldly. “Are you talking back to me now?”
Betty immediately lowered her head slightly. “No ma. That is not what I meant-”
“I told you it was rejected!” Janet snapped loudly. “The COO completely blasted me because of this junk. She said this proposal was embarrassing.”
Marcus frowned deeply and stepped forward.
“The COO?” he repeated slowly.
Janet immediately turned toward him with irritation.
“Yes, pauper,” she sneered. “The COO herself trashed it.”
Marcus became completely confused.
Natalie was not even around yesterday. She had traveled out for a business meeting. So when exactly had Janet submitted the proposal to her?
Something instantly felt wrong.
Still, Janet continued her dramatic performance without giving him time to think.
She suddenly threw the entire stack of papers into the air violently, scattering documents across the

“Look at this trash!” she yelled. “Two useless interns trying to do work far above their level. You should honestly be ashamed of yourselves.”
Betty clenched her fists tightly.
Janet continued mercilessly.
“I seriously wonder how people like you even got accepted here. No wonder this company’s standards are dropping.”
Marcus’ eyes darkened.
But before he could speak, Betty suddenly raised her head in frustration.
“With all due respect ma,” she said shakily, “you did not even properly review the proposal before insulting us. the project isn’t even meant to be for us in the first place. it’s your work!”
The office instantly became tense.
Janet looked stunned for a second before her face twisted in rage.
“What did you just say?”
Betty swallowed nervously but continued anyway, emotions finally boiling over after enduring countless
humiliations.
“We worked extremely hard on that project,” she said. “And honestly… no matter how hard people work here, you always insult and bully them anyway.”
A loud gasp spread across the office.
Janet looked absolutely furious.
“You bitch!”
She suddenly raised her hand aggressively and tried slapping Betty across the face.
But before the slap could land-Marcus grabbed Janet’s wrist firmly midair.
Everyone froze.
Janet herself looked shocked.
Marcus stared coldly at her before pushing her hand away from Betty.
The movement was not violent, but it was enough to force Janet to stumble backward slightly in her heels.
The entire office became dead silent. Nobody could believe what they had just witnessed.

Janet slowly looked at Marcus with pure disbelief and fury burning inside her eyes.
Then she pointed shakily at both of them.
“The two of you…” she said through clenched teeth. “It is over for you today.”
With that, she stormed out of the department furiously while everyone remained frozen in complete
shock.
As Janet stormed out of the department angrily, the entire office remained silent for several seconds.
Nobody even dared speak. Betty slowly released a shaky breath before turning toward Marcus with a defeated expression.
“Well,” she muttered weakly, “it is over for us.”
Marcus looked at her calmly.
“We should probably start packing already,” Betty added bitterly. “There is no way she lets this go.”
At that exact moment, Marcus’ phone suddenly buzzed inside his pocket.
He pulled it out and checked the message. It was from Natalie.
[Come to the board room. You are needed right now].
Marcus stared at the message for a second before muttering quietly under his breath.
“About right time we meet.”
Betty looked confused. “What happened?”
Marcus slipped the phone back into his pocket before facing her calmly.
“Don’t fret,” he said. “Nothing is going to happen to us.”
Betty looked doubtful, but before she could ask further questions, Marcus had already turned and started walking away.
He entered the elevator and pressed the top executive floor.
The lift smoothly ascended upward.
A few moments later, the elevator doors opened directly onto the executive floor.
Marcus walked through the luxurious hallway before eventually arriving at the large board room.
Inside, Natalie was already seated at the long polished table. Beside her were two elderly board leaders dressed formally, both carrying the composed aura of experienced executives.
The moment Marcus entered, Natalie smiled lightly.

“You are here.”
Marcus nodded respectfully before greeting everyone present.
The two board leaders also greeted him warmly.
One of them, Mr. voss, even chuckled slightly.
