Meanwhile, Jessica was in her office. She had already met with Mr. Smith, the man who was apparently a member of the Langstone family and the one heading the investment project Travis had mentioned.

Even though Jessica was convinced the opportunity was real, she still had her reservations. Spending almost all of a company’s available revenue on a single investment was never a good idea. She knew that better than anyone. It would be reckless and irresponsible to pour that much money into something that still carried a level of uncertainty.

So she hesitated.

Travis sat across from her and tried to convince her.

“Why are you resisting this?” he asked. “This is hot bread. Opportunities like this don’t come around every day.”

Jessica shook her head.

“I understand that, but it’s still too risky. The returns are attractive, but so is the amount we’re putting in. One mistake and we could suffer.”

Travis sighed heavily.

“What if we miss out? What if this becomes the biggest opportunity of the year and we’re sitting here doing nothing?”

Jessica was about to respond when her phone suddenly buzzed.

She glanced at the screen and immediately sat upright.

It was an official message from Langstone Company.

Her eyes widened as she quickly opened it.

“Aurora Branding Project…” she murmured.

The message announced a contract partnership opportunity to assist them on the branding project. The winning company would receive a profit worth fifteen million dollars. Only one company would be

selected.

Jessica’s eyes lit up instantly.

“What about this?” she said excitedly as she turned the phone toward Travis. “What about this?”

Travis looked at the message.

essica continued, “Can he help us get this project? This is so much better. There’s barely any risk compared to that investment. If he can help me secure this contract, I’d be far happier.”

Travis forced a smile.

You need big money, Jessica. The investment gives you that.”

Jessica laughed. “That’s because you don’t know anything about business. Some people love high-risk, high-reward opportunities. That’s never been me. I prefer low-risk, high-reward whenever possible. This contract is worth fifteen million dollars. Why would I gamble most of our funds when I can focus on winning something like this?”

Travis remained silent.

His expression gradually darkened.

The investment was supposed to happen. Everything had been carefully arranged. If Jessica shifted her attention to the Aurora Branding Project, all of his plans could fall apart.

He quickly searched for another argument.

“There’s no guarantee you’ll win.”

“There’s also no guarantee the investment succeeds,” Jessica shot back. Travis clenched his jaw.

Jessica suddenly stood and walked around her desk.

“Please, Travis.”

Her tone softened. “If Mr. Smith is really a member of the Langstone family, helping us get an

introduction shouldn’t be difficult for him.”

She looked at him hopefully.

“I’ll do anything you want if you can make this happen.”

Travis stared at her.

“Anything?”

Jessica nodded eagerly.

“Anything. Just help me talk to Mr. Smith. If he really has influence in Langstone, getting this project would be so easy!”.

He froze for a moment. Then he opened the second file. Alfred Consortium. The proposal had been prepared and submitted by Julia.

Marcus stared at the file in disbelief. Of all the companies in the city, these were the final two.

Betty noticed his reaction.

“You know them?” she asked.

Marcus quickly shook his head. “Yes I do”.
