Chapter 98

Travis wanted this deal to go through by all means and would do anything for it. When he arrived in his room, he was about to make the call before he suddenly paused.
He thought about it. What if they call Mr. Smith and he gets angry at the pestering and decides not to collaborate with them again? That wouldn’t be beneficial for him, especially with the benefits he was pursuing. So he decided not to call him or ask about anything. He stayed in his room for a few minutes, thinking about what to tell Jessica. Then, once the idea had fully sunk in, he smirked and returned to the
room. 1
Jessica, who was waiting inside, frowned and demanded, “So what did he say? Isn’t he going to help me
with this?”
Travis put on a fake worried face and said, “Mr. Smith tried to help. He was even sorry, you know. But it’s not just him-he can’t decide things alone. The board is also involved. He told me that someone from the branding office intentionally removed you from being chosen. They badmouthed you and said you weren’t the right fit for the project, even when Mr. Smith tried to make things right. That person kept making them doubt that you were suitable.”
This made Jessica frown, nearly losing her mind. “What the fuck do you mean by that?! Someone sabotaged me, you said?”
Travis nodded.
“Who is that? Who could do such a thing?” Jessica was furious.
But Travis just stared at her in silence.
Jessica, reading his face, frowned even harder. “Don’t tell me it was Marcus. Marcus made them not give me the project? He’s the one who sabotaged me?”
Travis nodded. “Yes. Mr. Smith told me directly. They asked the staff to have some say about the final choice. While many chose you, Marcus went against it and made a very strong statement to get them to deny you the project.”
This made Jessica mad. “How could Marcus do that to me? How fucking could he!”.
At that moment, Mrs. Morgan, who was already dressed, stormed out after hearing the statement. “I told you! This lowlife fucker doesn’t like you at all. He was with you for the money. Now that you ended things, he wants to ruin you.”
Travis added fuel to the fire. “I don’t even understand why she wants him back. He is a snake! Look at what he’s ruined.”
With that, Jessica, now in full rage mode, picked up her bag and stormed outside. She was so furious that she made her way straight to the company. Upon arriving, she stormed into the conference room where Marcus was in a meeting with Betty and other staff members.
“Marcus!” Jessica shouted at the top of her voice. “You betrayal! After everything I did for you, is this

how you pay me back?”
Marcus frowned, clearly confused by the outburst. He stood up and moved forward. “What are you saying? And what is the essence of what you are doing right now?”
Jessica laughed bitterly. “Oh, you’re acting innocent like you don’t know. After sabotaging me and everything! You’re acting like a pure man. I’ve already figured out all your tricks! You gold-digger!”
She was screaming so loudly that her voice echoed through the office. Marcus tried to calm the situation. “Jessica, let’s talk outside. Stop causing nonsense here.”
“Oh, I’m causing nonsense? Is that what you call it? Nonsense? What about you? Why did you sabotage me? You made them not give me the project. You literally told them to reject me even after I was about
to be chosen!”
Marcus shook his head. “I have no idea what you are saying.”
Jessica decided to humiliate him further. She walked deeper into the room, drawing everyone’s attention. “Look at him. He is someone who doesn’t deserve to be here. He is a lowlife, freeloader, pauper. An orphan who had nothing. He lived under my roof for three years as my fiancé without having his own place to live. He is as broke as a church rat! He depended on me for everything, and yet he betrayed me.”
The entire room murmured in shock. Seeing the reaction, Jessica pressed on. “Someone that doesn’t have any background gets to be Sales Manager Assistant? Doesn’t it reek of favoritism to you all? It’s an insult to every one of you, because he only got this position because he was fucking the COO, Ms.
Natalie.”
The murmurs grew louder. “What! Is that true?” someone whispered. “He is in a relationship with Ms. Natalie?”.
another added. “No wonder he was promoted before me!”
Marcus stared at Jessica in disbelief, his voice low but firm. “Jessica, I can’t believe you, you come here
to humiliate me like this?”
Jessica laughed mockingly, her eyes blazing with fury. “Oh, I’m the bad person now? After you made them reject me? I am the bad person?”
Betty, who had been listening quietly, stepped forward with a calm expression. “Ma, there is a misunderstanding. Marcus didn’t sabotage you at all. In fact, to be fair, he removed himself from the selection process for the project. We chose someone else not because you aren’t capable, but because the other person brought something unique that we needed.”
