Chapter 269 The Allure of Retribution

Tracy wasn’t exactly Norman’s first choice for a granddaughter-in-law, but he’d poked around anyway just because Felix was so clearly interested.

“It’s lively over here,” a familiar voice drifted over. “What are we talking about?”

The group turned to see Waylon approaching in a sharp grey suit. He greeted the host first. “Happy birthday, Norman. Sorry I’m late; the rush hour traffic was a nightmare.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Norman chuckled. “The party hasn’t even started. You’re right on time.”

As they exchanged pleasantries, Yvonne and Chandler made their move. Yvonne stepped up with a practiced, elegant smile and extended her hand to Waylon. “Mr. Waylon, hello. We were hoping to touch base with you regarding the contract details.”

The Medical AI Department had just announced that the signing would take place next Friday. With their own project launching this Monday, Yvonne felt like she was on top of the world. Securing Waylon’s backing would solve every future hurdle. She shot a look at Tracy, imagining her soon-to-be rival being cast out like a stray dog once the truth came out.

If she signed with Waylon, she might finally get Morten’s seal of approval. One word from Waylon, and her dream of becoming Morten’s student would be within reach.

Waylon’s expression shifted instantly. His face went cold. “Contract details aren’t for public discussion. We’ll settle everything at the signing. Don’t you know the rules?”

He had no intention of working with them, and he certainly hadn’t invited them to sign anything. He couldn’t help but find their sheer confidence as pathetic as it was deluded.

Yvonne froze, the rejection stinging like a slap. She stood there, her face burning with embarrassment in front of the crowd.

Chandler stepped in to cover for her. “Mr. Waylon, this is Yvonne’s first time handling a partnership of this scale. She’s just a bit nervous. It was a minor slip-up.”

Waylon didn’t even bother to listen. He turned and walked away, making it clear he had zero interest in talking to them.

Yvonne gritted her teeth, only to see Tracy watching her with a faint, knowing smile. It was infuriating. To have her most humiliating moment witnessed by Tracy was more than she could stand. After a string of failures today, her mood was in the gutter, but she refused to give up. After next week, Tracy would be the laughingstock of Northport. We’ll see who’s smiling then.

Tracy ignored the glare. She wasn’t about to let Yvonne ruin her night.

As the banquet began, a crowd swarmed Norman to offer their well-wishes. Most were just looking for an in with the Quinn family, hoping to snag a partnership. Yvonne and Chandler were no different; no one wanted to miss a chance to climb higher.

Tracy picked up a glass of red wine, but as she went to take a sip, Sean’s hand closed around her wrist. “Did you forget what happened last time you drank?”

She looked up, meeting his deep, dark gaze. He gently took the glass from her hand. She hadn’t had a drop, yet her face was flushed, her lips parted like a blooming rose. They were stunning and dangerous. Sean’s pulse quickened. He fought the urge to kiss her right then and there and forced himself to look

away.

The party wrapped up at ten. Tracy left her car for her driver to bring back and hopped into Sean’s.

The second they parked, Sean unbuckled his seatbelt and pulled her into a kiss. It was dominant, almost punishing, catching Tracy off guard. But as he deepened the kiss, her resolve melted. Her body went soft, and she sank into his embrace.

He ended up carrying her into the elevator. Luckily, it was quiet, though Tracy buried her face in his chest when another resident stepped in.
