“No,” Tracy said, shaking her head. “I was just thinking about how much I used to envy Yvonne’s jewelry. For years, I kept hoping they’d remember me and buy me something, anything but it never happened. I guess in their minds, she was the only family they had. I was always the outsider.”
Sean pulled her into a hug and held her tight. “That’s all in the past now.”
Tracy looked up at him. “Thanks for everything, bro. If you hadn’t backed me up, I don’t know what I would’ve done.”
She was genuinely grateful. Without Sean, none of this would have gone so smoothly.
Sean looked down at her, a hint of a smile on his face. “You’ve called me hubby before, but now we’re back to bro, are we?”
Tracy immediately looked away, her face flushing deep red. She had only said that in the heat of the moment; she couldn’t bring herself to say it now.
Sean’s expression turned serious. “Did Julie threaten you?”
“Yeah,” Tracy nodded. “She said they’d commit perjury if I pushed the case. I recorded the whole thing, though. If they try to lie in court, I’ll play the tape and show everyone what they’re really up to.”
“Good. You’re learning how to protect yourself.” Sean gave her a pat on the head. “You’ve had a long day. Go get some sleep.”
As soon as Tracy left the room, Sean’s face darkened. He knew Julie wouldn’t just let this go. He’d known her for years and knew she was the type to do whatever it took to get her way.
He picked up his phone and made a call. “I need you to take care of something for me.”
Tracy was woken up by her phone buzzing. It was the weekend, and she had planned on sleeping in, but the constant ringing was driving her crazy. She checked the screen and saw it was Trevor calling.
She didn’t want to answer, but after he called several times in a row, she finally picked up just to make it stop.
“Tracy, do you have a minute? I want to talk,” Trevor said, his voice sounding exhausted.
“If you’re calling to tell me to bring that contract back to Xander Corp, don’t bother,” Tracy said.

Back when she actually had something to say, they never believed her. Now they were the ones desperate to talk. If she hadn’t been smart enough to handle things, and if Sean hadn’t helped her, this family of idiots would have ruined her.
