“Did Julie find you?”

He was good. One guess and he hit the nail on the head.

Tracy thought about it for a second before giving him an honest answer. “Yeah. She wanted me to drop the old charges, but I told her no.”

Sean’s voice came through the phone, low and steady. “I’m nearby on a project. I’ll come pick you up.”

Tracy was about to tell him not to bother, but he hung up before she could get a word in.

In the car, Gary couldn’t help but glance at Sean in the rearview mirror. The man was a natural liar. They had just left the office and were nowhere near her, but Sean told her he was right around the corner just to make her happy.

The things rich people did for romance. Even from halfway across the city, he was willing to drop everything just to drive her home.

It was the average life of a capitalist.

“Where to, sir?” Gary asked.

Sean gave him an address. Gary sighed to himself. It wasn’t just a long drive; it was a trek.

As they passed a florist, Gary slowed the car down. “Sir, do you want to grab some flowers for Ms. Tracy? It’s a pretty big deal that she landed that medical AI contract today.”

Sean opened his eyes. He’d been leaning back, trying to catch a moment of rest after a long week. He looked out the window and then back at Gary. “Pull over. I’ll grab some.”

If Gary hadn’t said anything, he probably would have forgotten. He knew women liked that kind of thing. Today was a win for Tracy, so it made sense to get her something to celebrate.

Between Julie showing up and the whole mess with Yvonne, she was probably on edge. He figured he’d need to do a little extra to cheer her up.

He stepped out of the car and walked into the shop. The clerk, a girl in her early twenties, saw him walk in and immediately tried to get close. He was good-looking and clearly had money; she wasn’t about to miss her chance.

“Can I help you find something, sir?”

Sean shifted slightly, avoiding her hand as she reached toward him. “I’m looking for flowers for

my girlfriend. Just give me a bouquet of whatever you girls usually like.”

The clerk looked disappointed. Of course he’s taken.

Once he was back in the car with the flowers, Sean told Gary to go buy a jewelry set while he took the wheel and drove to meet Tracy himself.

Gary just sat there as his boss drove off. He’d been ditched on the side of the road to go jewelry shopping while his boss went to play the hero. The life of an assistant was a thankless one.

When Sean pulled up to the cafe, Tracy was standing by the curb, aimlessly kicking at some gravel. She saw his car and jogged over as he stepped out with a bunch of red roses.

Under the dim streetlights, his tall silhouette looked like something out of a movie. It was hard to look away.

Sean walked up and handed her the flowers. “Congrats on the contract.”

Tracy blinked, then took them with a smile. “Thanks.”

She hadn’t pegged him for the romantic type. They’d known each other for a while, but this was the first time he’d ever given her flowers. It caught her off guard.

Sean looked down at her, his dark eyes unreadable. “Do you really need to thank me?”

Tracy looked down at the roses. The scent hit her, and for the first time, she actually thought roses smelled good.

They headed back to the apartment where Gary was already waiting. He hurried over the second he saw them, looking relieved. He handed a small velvet box to Sean with a grin. “Here’s the set you asked for.”

Sean took it and nodded at him. “You’re done for the day. Go home.”

Gary was ecstatic. Finally, he could go home and do nothing. That was the best part of the job.
