Nora Dodge's maternal family was an absolute mess.

She had a mother who, in order to secure a wealthy marriage for Nora's cousin, Bella, didn't hesitate to drug her own daughter to ruin her innocence and hand her fiancé over to her niece.

She also had a father who kept so many mistresses and illegitimate children on the side that he would sometimes even call Nora by the wrong name.

However, her older sister and second brother treated her well.

Her eldest sister was in business, managing the Dodge family enterprise; her second brother was in politics, having secured a prominent political position at a young age; as for Nora, she had just graduated from college, but she already had her own career and accomplishments.

The three Dodge siblings relied entirely on themselves, not their parents.

But if getting a divorce meant she needed her family's approval...

"If I decide to get a divorce without my family's approval, what are the risks?"

"It's not a matter of risk. Without your family's backing, going into a divorce single-handedly means leaving with nothing if you're lucky. More than likely, you wouldn't be able to get a divorce at all."

"What if the guy agrees to the divorce too?"

"Divorce isn't just about two people; it involves both families. Setting aside the division of assets, you'd still need to get your hands on your family registry documents, right?"

"Well, what if none of those issues existed? Are there any other risks?"

Cassidy Quinn snapped her head around to look at Nora, sensing that something was off. She fired back, "Why are you asking this?"

Nora's gaze darted away. She thought for a second before softly explaining, "I asked Maloney for a divorce yesterday."

Cassidy stared at her in stunned silence.

"Why?"

"I just... wanted to."

What kind of reason was that?

Cassidy shifted in her seat and leaned closer to Nora. "Did he cheat on you?"

Right on cue, Jasmine Smith, who had been stuck in traffic, finally arrived.

"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting!" Jasmine slid into the booth, squeezing right between Nora and Cassidy. "What did I miss?" she asked breathlessly.

Cassidy kept her eyes locked on Nora. "We were just talking about how she wants a divorce."

Jasmine turned to Nora, realization dawning on her face. "Is it because of the photo I sent you?"
