Jasmine nodded enthusiastically. "Exactly!"

Nora looked at them with complete sincerity. "I'm terrified of the day I have to face his infidelity."

That silenced the table.

Anticipating a massive crisis and making the most advantageous choices to protect oneself—whether in business or daily life—was the hallmark of a clear-headed, independent woman.

Cassidy understood exactly where Nora was coming from.

But understanding it only made her heart ache more for her friend.

Cassidy sighed heavily. "Can you really let him go?"

"I can," Nora replied.

Cassidy didn't press any further.

Fear only existed because there were feelings involved.

Nora loved Maloney.

She had loved him for years.

Back in The Gated Community, Maloney had been the leader of their pack. As the oldest and most level-headed, he naturally took on the role of the protective older brother.

Meanwhile, Nora was the youngest and completely neglected at home. Her parents didn't care about her, and her older siblings, who were over a decade older, had moved out for work. She was left home alone, constantly tormented by her cousin Bella.

Maloney had stepped in to help Nora on several occasions.

Because of those few acts of kindness during her childhood, Nora had given him her whole heart.

Unfortunately, her feelings were entirely unrequited.

Even though a twist of fate had brought them together in marriage.

It was clear they weren't meant to last.

The topic drifted away.

Cassidy retold her own relationship drama to Jasmine.

The three of them spent the entire afternoon chatting.

As evening fell, they grabbed a seafood boil at a nearby restaurant.

Jasmine looked miserable. "I'm not as strong as you are. What am I supposed to do if I need a divorce later?"

"Don't worry, everyone's situation is different. Look at me," Nora said, pointing to herself. "My divorce is going to be incredibly easy."

Right then, Parker called Cassidy again to tell her he was waiting out front.

Nora and Jasmine flanked Cassidy, walking her toward the entrance.

Under the evening streetlights, Parker stood lazily leaning against his car door in a crisp, tailored suit. He glanced up at Cassidy, his tone a little stiff as he said, "Let's go home."

His outfit was exactly the same as the one he had worn the day he proposed to her.

Cassidy zoned out for a second.

She nodded wordlessly, let go of Nora and Jasmine's hands, and walked slowly toward Parker.

Just as she was about to walk around the hood of the car to get into the passenger seat, Parker suddenly called out to her, "Cassidy."

Cassidy stopped in her tracks. Before she could react, the passenger door clicked open from the inside.

Seraphina Sinclair leaned out, wearing a pale yellow dress and a soft, sweet smile. Acting as if there was absolutely nothing wrong with her being there, she waved cheerfully. "Cassidy, it's been ages!"
