Parker glared at Cassidy coldly. "Are you kicking me out on purpose so you can keep screwing around with some guy at the firm?"
"Cheating requires proof," Cassidy replied.
"I let a friend sit in my passenger seat once, and you dragged my name through the mud. But some guy brings you food every single day, and suddenly you want to talk about proof?"
"Don't be a hypocrite."
"I'm not accepting this suspension. I'm keeping an eye on you. I'm going to tell Mom right now that I'll be taking over your care."
With that, Parker spun around and stormed out of the office.
Cassidy rubbed her temples, a headache forming.
"Director Quinn," Aidan's voice called out softly from the doorway.
"Come in."
Aidan walked in, setting a steaming mug of honey citrus tea by her right hand. "Have some tea."
Cassidy picked up the glass mug, taking a slow sip. The soothing sweetness managed to take the edge off her simmering frustration.
"Aidan," she said smoothly. "Pull the HR file on Lola for me."
"Right away, Director Quinn."
Aidan stepped out, and in less than sixty seconds, he returned, sliding a manila folder onto her desk.
It was as if he had it prepped and waiting.
Cassidy froze.
The documents inside didn't just detail Lola's background, education, and resume. They included a meticulous financial breakdown of every single dollar Parker had spent on her since her hiring.
Shock rippled through Cassidy. She tapped the stack of papers. "Who put this together?"
Aidan offered a polite smile. "Mrs. Quincy requested it."
Lola was an agonizingly average girl.
She had absolutely no powerful connections or backing.
Her entire existence at the firm was entirely dependent on Parker's protection.
But what power did Parker actually hold?
Bridget was the absolute authority.
Lola's actions had pushed Cassidy and Parker to the absolute brink of divorce, yet Bridget hadn't fired her.
She had merely transferred her to a different department.
