Right at the main entrance of the Evergreen Wellness Center, Cassidy Quinn rolled her eyes the moment she saw Nora Dodge and Maloney Jameson strolling out of the parking lot hand in hand.
She was utterly speechless.
Was this what young newlyweds were like?
Attached at the hip wherever they went.
Spotting Cassidy by the entrance, Nora let go of Maloney's hand and jogged over. "Cass!"
"Where's Jasmine?" she asked.
"She's not here yet," Cassidy replied. "She had lunch with Penelope and Felix earlier, so she'll be a bit late."
"Oh, okay." Nora nodded. "Let's find somewhere to sit nearby then."
Cassidy raised an eyebrow. "With your husband tagging along?"
Nora was silent for a moment.
She couldn't exactly just ditch him.
Fortunately, it wasn't long before Jasmine Smith and Felix Hart arrived.
Jasmine seemed to be in high spirits. She practically skipped over to link arms with Nora and Cassidy.
"Nora! Cass!"
Cassidy looked at her suspiciously. "What's got you in such a good mood?"
"Nothing." Jasmine beamed. "Let's head inside."
Valery's room was on the first floor of the wellness center. It was a spacious one-bedroom suite with a large, private garden. If it weren't for the medical equipment humming in the corner, it would have easily passed for a cozy vacation home.
The five of them chatted and laughed as they walked up to Valery's door.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith were visibly startled by the entourage.
They hadn't expected such a large crowd.
"This..." Mrs. Smith hurried over to Jasmine, grabbing her hand and lowering her voice. "Why did you bring so many people?"
"They came to see Valery."
"Your sister can't be disturbed!"
"Then I'll go in alone, and they can wait outside."
Mrs. Smith hesitated, the words dying in her throat.
She glanced back at her husband.
Mr. Smith completely avoided her gaze.
Left with no other option, Mrs. Smith reluctantly nodded in agreement.
Jasmine slipped into the room alone.
Cassidy coldly observed the parents' reactions, her eyes narrowing.
Meanwhile, Nora poked Maloney in the side.
He leaned down, bringing his ear close to her lips.
"Look to your right," she whispered.
Maloney shifted his gaze. Not far away, the door to the emergency stairwell was cracked open. A hand was sticking out, waving frantically in the air, clearly trying to get someone's attention.
"I'll go check it out," he said softly.
"Okay, be careful."
