The Divorce That Brought Us Back novel Chapter 162

"So many people."

Valery sat in her wheelchair, her complexion slightly pale. Her long, dark hair fell perfectly over her shoulders, and her deep, dark eyes held a soft, hidden intensity.

A gentle smile graced her lips. "Why is everyone standing outside? Come on in and sit."

"Nora, it's been so long. I've been wearing the dresses you made for me. You need to come visit more often."

"Cassidy, you're looking more beautiful than ever. Has something wonderful happened recently? Care to share?"

"You're Maloney Jameson, right? Nora showed me your wedding photos. I was in the class next to yours in elementary school. We used to have gym class together, remember? I miss those days."

Valery's voice was soft and sweet, like a warm spring breeze, carrying a gentleness that was entirely her own.

She earnestly greeted everyone one by one. When her gaze swept over Yates groaning on the floor, she paused for a fraction of a second before smoothly skipping over him. She looked at Felix and smiled. "Are you a new friend?"

"I am. I'm Felix Hart. Cassidy's cousin, Jasmine's neighbor, and Nora's friend."

As he spoke, Felix leaned down and gently took Valery's hand. He lowered his head, stopping an inch from her skin, and offered a perfectly executed gentleman's kiss.

"And I'm your new friend, too."

Valery was visibly stunned.

She blinked, snapping out of her daze, and immediately broke into a radiant smile. "Hello, new friend. Would you like to see my flowers?"

"I have a whole garden full of them."

"My sister Jasmine planted them for me."

"It's a shame it's winter and most of them haven't bloomed yet. Could you come back and see me in the spring?"

Felix smiled warmly. "Of course I can."

"Come inside, everyone." Valery hadn't seen this many people in ages, and her excitement was palpable. She actually pushed herself up from her wheelchair.

Seeing this, Mrs. Smith lunged forward. "Valery, be careful!"

She intended to press Valery back into the seat.

The doctors had been clear: Valery's fragile health required strict management of her daily physical exertion. Keeping her in the wheelchair most of the time was the only way to carefully control her movement.

But with Felix standing directly in front of Valery, Nora and Maloney flanking her left, and Cassidy planted firmly on her right, Mrs. Smith couldn't find a gap to slip through.
