Mr. Hudson was Maloney's chief secretary.
He was in his thirties, impeccably dressed, sporting black-rimmed glasses, and possessed the socially adept yet analytical demeanor of an engineering grad.
Nora actually knew Mr. Hudson.
Two years ago, when Nora was hospitalized for an emergency surgery, Maloney had absolutely refused to leave her bedside. It was Mr. Hudson who acted as the courier, hauling massive stacks of urgent corporate documents directly to her hospital room for Maloney to review.
Because the company's demands were so relentless, Mr. Hudson had been making that trip twice a day.
He had even brought Nora pastries and coffee on his runs.
Nora genuinely liked the guy.
So, when Maloney had randomly pointed at Mr. Hudson earlier and demanded, "What do you think of him?" Nora hadn't understood the context of the question at all. Yet, she had answered without a second of hesitation: "He's great."
Mr. Hudson beamed at her now. "Mrs. Jameson, it's been a while."
"It has," Nora replied with a shy smile. "Mr. Hudson, you've lost so much weight."
"Haha, yeah," Mr. Hudson said, patting his stomach. "During the corporate physical last year, the doctor warned me my cholesterol was through the roof and ordered me to start exercising. Look, we've only got one life, so you do what the doctor says. I started jogging every single morning. Kept it up for over six months now, and honestly, I feel like a new man."
Nora nodded approvingly. "You definitely look much healthier."
Mr. Hudson chuckled, clearly ready to keep chatting, but Maloney suddenly raised a hand, slicing through the conversation. "Hudson."
His voice was ice. "You can leave now."
Mr. Hudson froze, entirely bewildered.
Maloney had officially confirmed his theory. Nora's desire for a divorce wasn't because of Mr. Hudson, nor was it due to a lack of physical satisfaction in their marriage.
There was zero need to continue the interrogation.
As soon as the door clicked shut behind the secretary, Maloney stood up from his executive chair, hauling Nora up with one arm. "Let's go home."
Nora was completely lost.
What was the actual point of dragging her all the way to the office today?
