Jasmine and Cassidy rushed back to Evergreen Wellness Center, shocked to find a long line of young men slouched against the wall in the corridor outside the suite.
"Nathan," Jasmine said, finding him huddled in a corner. "What happened?"
Nathan choked back a sob, unable to form a complete sentence.
"Jasmine, Jasmine, it's Valery, she... I... I... It's all my fault!"
Jasmine was speechless.
Cassidy took one look at Nathan's miserable state and wanted to slap some sense into him.
But seeing his tear-streaked, snotty face, she couldn't bring herself to do it.
The guys lingering around were all Parker's friends. Cassidy recognized them and quickly pulled two of the more reliable ones aside to get the full story.
For a moment, she didn't know what to say.
Technically, Nathan had succeeded in protecting Valery.
But things had blown completely out of proportion.
These hot-blooded rich kids rarely got an excuse to drag someone they usually despised down into the mud while playing the hero for a buddy.
They had a blast, made a massive scene, and knew that if they went home and cried to their parents about it, this act of vigilante justice wouldn't get them grounded—it might even earn them praise.
What a perfect setup.
Even Parker, who hadn't been at the scene, enthusiastically joined the crusade against Yates.
Someone snapped a stealthy photo of the police taking Yates away for questioning and dropped it in their group chat.
Parker plastered the photo across his social media, viciously mocking Yates with the caption: "Acts like a god in public, worse than a dog in private."
The news spread like wildfire.
By now, The Capital Elite probably knew all about Yates's filthy antics.
Cassidy rubbed her temples wearily and dialed Parker's number.
As it rang, she remembered their current relationship was incredibly strained. She wasn't sure he would listen to her; maybe she should have called her mother-in-law to handle it.
But he answered quickly.
"Parker," Cassidy started.
"What is it?" Parker's tone was surprisingly calm.
"Stop spreading the news about Yates. The bigger this gets, the more it hurts Jasmine and Valery. You guys might be having fun tearing him down, but every new person who finds out is another person pointing fingers at them. They aren't equipped to handle this kind of public pressure. Do you understand what I'm saying?" Cassidy couldn't help but slip into a lecturing tone.
She immediately regretted it, knowing how much Parker hated being scolded.
She braced herself for him to snap at her for ruining his fun.
Cassidy was entirely prepared to hang up and call his mother.
Instead, Parker just gave a low grunt. "Got it."
"Anything else?" he asked.
Caught off guard, Cassidy added, "Tell your friends to stop posting too."
"Got it."
"That's all."
"Okay."
Cassidy had never had such a peaceful phone call with Parker in her life.
It was downright bizarre.
His father was probably standing right next to him, forcing him to behave.
As long as the problem was solved, she didn't care.
