The car was impossible to ignore.
Several young people were already crowded around it, snapping photos.
Why was Maloney here at this hour?
Shouldn't he be at the office?
Sebastian's gaze tracked further up the street.
He saw Maloney and Nora stepping out of The Pearl & Petal boba shop, walking single file.
Wrapped in a fluffy white coat that made her look impossibly petite, Nora was storming ahead furiously. Maloney trailed casually behind her, leaning down slightly to speak to her.
Whatever Maloney said made Nora stop dead in her tracks. She spun around and kicked him hard in the leg.
They stood on the sidewalk, exchanging heated words.
Suddenly, Nora hoisted her designer bag and smacked Maloney right in the face with it.
Her expression was one of absolute fury.
While Maloney bent over to pick up the bag, she turned and bolted.
She made it exactly two feet before Maloney caught her in three long strides.
He clamped an arm around her waist, hoisted her off the ground, tucked her under his arm like a football, and marched straight back toward the shopping complex.
Even from a distance, her absolute fury and violent thrashing were palpable.
Just then, the gridlock cleared, and the line of cars began to move. Sebastian's driver accelerated, smoothly pulling out of the chaotic shopping district.
Maloney and Nora slowly vanished from sight.
Were they fighting?
Because of last night?
Maloney had just issued a brutal warning, after all.
It was entirely possible.
Sebastian fell into a deep silence.
He and Nora had been promised to each other since childhood.
They had been fiancés for over a decade.
It was a thorn that had always festered in Maloney's side.
Sebastian's mere presence around Nora was enough to make Maloney lose his calculated composure.
And judging by what he just saw, the impact was even greater than he had anticipated.
It made perfect sense.
Two years ago, if Maloney hadn't aggressively intervened, Nora would be married to Sebastian right now.
Her grandfather had even picked out their engagement date.
The rest of the drive was perfectly smooth.
She just hadn't had the time lately.
Her master plan was to lock down this massive project, visit Diana Dodge to throw her past insults right back in her face, and then re-enter Maloney's orbit as an undeniably brilliant, dazzling equal.
But if there was a crack in Maloney and Nora's relationship, this was the perfect opportunity to strike.
"What did they fight about?" Seraphina asked casually.
Sebastian answered, "Me."
Seraphina stared at him.
She couldn't hold it back and burst out laughing.
"Please don't tell me you think Nora has a crush on you."
"Don't be delusional, Sebastian. Because of you, Vivian threw Nora into a river and she almost drowned. You think she likes you? The fact that she hasn't destroyed you just proves she's weak!"
"Or wait—are you saying you have a crush on her?" Seraphina's eyes raked him up and down suspiciously. "Are you regretting it? Do you want to steal her back? Honestly, you should!"
"If you hadn't let Bella Monroe seduce you back then, I'd be calling Nora my sister-in-law right now, and Maloney wouldn't have gotten dragged into your mess. You'd be calling him your brother-in-law!"
"Hurry up and steal her back. Make Maloney single again so everything can go back to how it was supposed to be."
The elevator chimed, the doors sliding open to their floor.
Seraphina patted his shoulder. "It's your duty to fix this."
With her chin held high, she spun on her heel and strutted out of the elevator.
