Maloney's reputation was practically flawless.
So much so that Cassidy and Jasmine flat-out refused to believe he was capable of being unreasonable.
It took Nora half an hour of painstakingly explaining every detail before they reluctantly accepted it.
Cassidy: [Are you still in contact with Sebastian Sinclair?]
Nora: [No!]
That was exactly the point—she had absolutely zero contact with him! That was why she found Maloney's jealousy so incredibly irrational.
Jasmine: [Wow, that's wild. You guys actually fight? I thought your relationship was so perfect you never had any conflicts.]
[We do! We really do!] Nora wanted to cry. [He's so dominant and bossy. Everything has to be his way. If I argue back, he makes sarcastic remarks all day. And if he knows he's wrong and can't out-argue me, he resorts to physical suppression!]
[???] Cassidy replied. [Hold on a second. You're not just bragging about your sex life right now, are you?]
Nora kicked her legs in frustration. [I'm not!]
The mattress shifted slightly.
Maloney glanced down.
All he saw was a frustrated lump under the dark blue duvet.
Not a single strand of her hair was visible.
Jasmine: [I don't think I've ever heard you say a bad word about him before.]
Nora: [He was never like this! It's a recent development!]
Cassidy: [I think I get it now. Before, you didn't know he was in love with you, so you walked on eggshells. Whatever he said or did, you just went along with it. But now that you know he's obsessed with you, you're starting to act out.]
[Jasmine, ignore her. She's definitely bragging.]
Nora: [...]
[Jasmine, am I acting out?]
Jasmine: [...Uh, I don't think it's that bad.]
[If he really got mad at you just because you bumped into Sebastian, then he's the one being dramatic.]
Nora: [See!]
