The Divorce That Brought Us Back novel Chapter 236

The two of them were completely on different wavelengths.

Maloney was inexplicably sulking.

Nora's mind was in the gutter.

One was waiting for the other to figure it out, while the other would rather die than say what she was thinking.

The atmosphere became painfully awkward.

Just then, the sound of her employees talking drifted out from the workshop.

Maloney seemed to realize something and lifted Nora off his lap.

"Still working?" he asked.

Nora nodded. "Yeah. A client requested a last-minute change to the lace pattern. I need to finish the new sketches today and send them to the weaver for confirmation. I'm almost done, just need to wrap things up."

He gave a slight nod. "Go ahead."

Nora headed into the workshop, casting glances back at him every few steps.

Her productivity was incredibly low today.

It seemed she needed to establish a new rule in their group chat: an absolute ban on discussions that messed with her state of mind.

She finally managed to get into the zone.

Her mood slowly settled.

In hindsight, she realized that Maloney had seemed genuinely angry just now.

But why?

Because her reaction to the flowers wasn't enthusiastic enough?

Or was it because of those two bodyguards?

Both were plausible.

So, once Nora finished her tasks, she walked out of the workshop, stepped behind the sofa, and wrapped her arms around Maloney's neck. Pressing her cheek affectionately against his, she softly explained, "Maloney, Yates suddenly showed up to see me today."

"He wanted me to take him to see your sister. I refused and mocked him a bit. Jasmine was worried he might cause trouble, so she sent those two bodyguards to protect me."

"But I declined. We have our own security, so I sent them back."

Maloney reached up to stroke her hair. "I'll handle the arrangements."

Nora leaned forward, resting her weight against his shoulders.

"And about the flowers," she continued, "I placed them right in the middle of the long table in my workshop. Even when you're not with me, all I have to do is look at them, and I'll think of you."

These words had been carefully considered and were absolutely sincere.

Nora felt extremely confident.

Nora froze.

Seeing her hesitate, he pressed a hand to the back of her neck. "Answer me."

Wait a second.

How was she supposed to choose between those options?

"You're just you," she whispered. "I don't see you as any of those things."

"And when I was pursuing you?" His voice dropped an octave. "What did you see me as then?"

Nora was stunned again. "Are you talking about when I first started college?"

"Yes."

"I thought I was just imagining things."

This time, it was Maloney's turn to freeze.

"What did you say?"

"I said I thought my feelings were totally one-sided."

"You knew I was after you back then?"

"I didn't know at the time."
