Nora found the whole thing hilarious. "It's fine. A true warrior knows when to bow and when to stand tall."
Cassidy's face twisted in exasperation. "How are you still laughing?!"
"Seeing you lose an argument to her makes me feel a lot better about myself."
"Stop hyping up the enemy and tearing us down!"
"Hahahaha!"
Cassidy just glared at her.
She took a sip of her freshly squeezed orange juice, slamming the glass down onto the table with a loud thud.
She countered, "It's not that I can't out-argue her. It's just that she was born with astronomically more resources than we were."
"Have you heard about the recent power struggle within the Sinclair family? Seraphina took on her entire extended family single-handedly. She fired six executives, sent two to prison, and forced the rest to pledge loyalty. Her absolute ruthlessness has made her infamous in our circles."
"How did she manage all that so quickly? I'll admit she has a silver tongue, but she's just a rich kid who recently returned from studying abroad. She lacks genuine corporate management experience. I refuse to believe she's more capable than I am."
"Her success is entirely because she's the golden child of the Sinclair family. She was Alistair Sinclair's prized jewel. All she had to do was run to his old billionaire buddies and shed a few tears, and half of The Capital Elite rallied behind her."
"Go ask your husband. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jamesons pulled some strings for her too."
"When she cries, she gets multi-million dollar backing. When I cry, my parents, my brother, and my grandparents just say, 'We told you so. Girls shouldn't be out showing their faces in business. You should have just married a good man and raised kids. You insisted on fighting for a career, and now look at you running home to cry.'"
"Yeah, I'm only worthy of criticism and lectures."
"Basically, the ladder I've spent years painstakingly building is just her innate starting line. Give me a few more years, and I bet I'll leave her in the dust."
Nora hugged Cassidy's arm, nodding enthusiastically. "Mhm, Cass is the most amazing person ever."
Cassidy threw her a sidelong glance. "Are you mocking me?"
"No, I'm seriously praising you! Hahahaha."
Cassidy shook her head.
She couldn't comprehend what was so funny.
In reality, Nora's logic was simple. She had suffered a loss against Seraphina before, and after careful reflection, she knew she still couldn't beat her in a battle of wits.
Had she gained weight?
Seraphina then eyed the orange juice sitting in front of Cassidy. "Childish."
Fury erupted within Cassidy. She fought back the intense urge to flip the table and scoffed, "Did you come here just to say that?"
"You fail to manage your own figures, yet you get offended when someone points it out." Seraphina rolled her eyes and shoved a brown paper bag toward Nora. "Here. Yours."
In the past, Seraphina had always treated Nora like a long-lost best friend. Today's suffocating wave of acid and venom was genuinely shocking.
She reached out and took the bag.
"Cassidy is pregnant, you have no right to insult her." Nora stared Seraphina down. "Your meeting is with me. She's just here to keep me company. If you have something to say, say it to me. But if you insult her one more time, this conversation is over."
Hearing this, Seraphina shifted her gaze to Cassidy and sneered. "Pregnant? Then you're quite useless, aren't you? Pregnant, and you still can't keep your man on a leash. Parker came crawling to me a few days ago, begging for my attention."
She was completely unfazed by Nora's threat.
Her expression darkening, Nora stood up from the booth.
