Seraphina rested her chin in her hand, leaning forward over the table to speak directly into the phone. Right in front of Nora, she deliberately softened her voice. "Maloney, I'm the one who's stood by you for over twenty years."

"Who taught you that time dictates the depth of a connection?" Maloney scoffed. "If I want someone, I know it the second I lay eyes on them. And if I don't, a lifetime won't change my mind."

I didn't even come home for the holidays." Maloney's voice was forged from pure ice. "Stop projecting your delusions onto me."
