"Go ahead then." Her words said one thing, but her leg stayed exactly where it was.
Nora stared at Maloney with hazy, captivating eyes.
Her gaze deliberately trailed down his abs.
Having just gotten out of the pool, Nora was wrapped up in a blanket, but Maloney hadn't had a chance to put anything on yet.
Approaching thirty, and the man's physique was still flawless.
But then again, he put in the work.
They had a full home gym setup.
And he was a regular at his corporate gym.
Mr. Hudson had even sent Nora photos of her boss secretly pumping iron.
Very quickly.
Nora managed to make herself blush just from looking.
She pulled her leg back and buried her head into the blanket.
It was both frustrating and hilarious.
Maloney let out a low chuckle, went to pour the water, and when he returned to the living room, he dug her out of her blanket cocoon.
"Drink."
Nora held the glass with both hands, her eyes involuntarily darting downward again. "Go put some pants on."
"I still need it."
"..."
By the time they returned home from the resort, two days had passed.
Nora had two main tasks on her plate.
One was digging into Lucius Vane, and the other was figuring out how to make it up to Maloney.
She was torn between staging her own proposal or initiating something spicier.
She had a feeling he'd prefer the latter.
But the former held more sentimental value as an apology.
The problem was, she didn't have a solid, emotionally resonant plan for it yet.
In the midst of her busy schedule, Cassidy organized a dinner.
Inside the private room of an exclusive lounge.
Jasmine couldn't help but text Cassidy again: 'I still don't really get what you were trying to explain to me last time.'
'Are you saying that because Mr. Jameson hides things from Nora and controls her, we have to help her fight back?'
Cassidy: '...'
'I never said that.'
Jasmine: 'There's something I haven't told you guys yet.'
'Two weeks ago, Yates' mother came to see me. She apologized and told me that Yates had actually been in love with Valerie this entire time.'
'He even told his parents, but because of Valerie's illness, the Quigley family absolutely forbade it. They demanded that Yates stay with me instead.'
'My family's background isn't even as good as his, so there was absolutely no strategic reason for a forced marriage. He could have chosen literally anyone else.'
'I honestly thought he was just so selfish that he wanted to string both of us along.'
'It wasn't until his mom confessed everything to me. Their family was planning to drain my family's wealth. Nate is a mess, Valerie is sick, and my parents trusted Yates blindly. As long as Yates married me, everything my family owned would eventually belong to the Quigleys.'
'I was actually feeling guilty before, thinking I blew things out of proportion and sent his dad to the hospital.'
'It was Mr. Jameson who backed Yates into a corner, forcing his family to come beg me for mercy, which is how I found out the rest of the story.'
'Mr. Jameson also had someone pass a message to me: Yates has been taken away by his parents. He's never coming back to the city, and he'll never bother me again. He said that a family shouldn't just abandon the rotten son they raised.'
