Nora Dodge suspected she had just been played by Seraphina Sinclair.
Seraphina had instructed Nora to say three specific sentences to Sebastian Sinclair.
First: "I heard you were sick."
Second: "Does it still hurt?"
Third: "If it weren't for... I'd be by your side taking care of you right now..."
These three sentences seemed innocent enough, but they were also incredibly loaded. If you analyzed them, they were somewhat problematic; if you didn't, they were harmless.
They were completely ambiguous.
Seraphina had claimed this was simply a tactic to manipulate men.
She just told Nora to follow the script.
To make it happen, Seraphina had even cleared the room beforehand, forcing Nora to enter the hospital room alone.
Nora had barely been able to force the words out.
Stumbling through the sentences, she had turned on her heel and bolted, not even giving Sebastian a chance to respond.
Yet Seraphina had praised her, claiming Nora's flustered reaction was the perfect touch.
Nora couldn't understand it at all.
She recounted the entire bizarre ordeal to Jasmine Smith.
Jasmine was just as confused. "But that seems way too easy. You got all that information just by saying three lines? I honestly thought she was going to make you seduce Sebastian."
"I never would have agreed to that," Nora said through gritted teeth. "She knew this task was simple enough that I'd probably say yes, which is exactly why she set it up this way. She's terrifying. I can never tell when she's telling the truth or lying. From now on, let Cassidy deal with her."
Jasmine hesitated. "But Cassidy can be pretty blunt."
Nora sighed. "Are you volunteering?"
Jasmine paused. "...Let Cassidy handle it."
With that sorted, the matter was put to rest for the day.
When Nora returned home that evening, she felt inexplicably guilty.
It wasn't even nine o'clock yet, but she showered early, crawled into bed, and hid under the covers to scroll through her phone.
Maloney Jameson took one look at her and knew something was off.
"What's wrong?"
