Cassidy stared at her in utter disbelief.

"Are you kidding me? Was that really the takeaway?"

"Wasn't it?" Nora shot back.

"The point is *why*! Why is the only question that matters!" Cassidy threw her hands up.

"Bella is a walking nightmare. She gets out on bail, and your husband doesn't say a word? Was he planning on hiding it until it blew over, or was he never going to tell you at all? And *why* did he do it?"

"Plus, everything Bella blabbed about—did he know? If he knew, why did he keep his mouth shut? He had the files this whole time, but only brought them out after you forced his hand?"

"That is the damn point!"

Nora blinked.

"Does it really matter?"

Cassidy softened her tone, recognizing Nora's defense mechanism kicking in. "You're married. There shouldn't be taboo subjects. Even if you think you know the answer, you still need to hear it from him."

"Do I?"

"Of course you do."

"What if it turns into a fight?"

"The goal isn't sunshine and rainbows."

Something clearly struck a nerve, because Cassidy leaned in closer. "Let me use myself as a prime example."

"When Parker and I first got hitched, things were actually decent. We communicated."

"I vented to him about my family's double standards. How I run circles around my brother, but my parents still treat him like the golden boy."

Nora gave her a rough breakdown of the corporate strategy.

"The official pitch is mostly fluff. Lots of corporate buzzwords that make it sound like a massive charitable endeavor."

Cassidy sat up straighter. "So he essentially fed you the PR spin instead of the truth?"

Nora shrugged helplessly. "Honestly, Cass, I don't know what to do."

"You saw what happened at the airport. Seraphina was just using me as bait."

"She dragged me right to Bella, knowing Bella despises me and would completely lose it."

"And right when Bella was having a total meltdown, Seraphina shoved a photo in her face. From Bella's reaction, it was incredibly obvious she recognized the person."

"Every single one of them has an ulterior motive. We're tiny fish in a shark tank, just waiting to get swallowed. I'm starting to think the smartest move is to just throw in the towel and walk away."
