"Director King!" Cassidy greeted him enthusiastically, waving her hand. "What a coincidence! Are you being discharged today too?"
Silas offered her a polite smile. "Director Quinn."
He then glanced at Nora. "Nora."
Nora nodded in response, a flash of suspicion darting through her eyes.
Cassidy wheeled herself alongside Silas, making small talk. "How long until your leg is fully healed?"
"The doctor said three months."
"The summit is coming up soon. Will this impact your schedule?"
"Not at all."
"Why don't you calculate how much this will cost you in lost wages over the next three months, and I'll find a way to compensate you?"
"It was just an accident. No need for formalities, Director Quinn."
They chatted for a few more minutes.
Silas's assistant took a phone call, his brow furrowing. He leaned in and whispered something into his boss's ear.
"Is everything okay?" Cassidy asked.
Silas shook his head. "It's nothing."
"Director King." Cassidy tilted her head, batting her eyelashes slightly. "I owe you a massive favor right now. If there's anything you need, please, don't hesitate to ask."
Silas glanced up at his assistant.
The assistant sighed helplessly. "The car we arranged to pick you up got rear-ended on the way here. We dispatched a backup, but it got sideswiped by an electric trike and lost its side mirror. This is entirely my fault. Boss, should I call a premium ride service, or arrange for another company car?"
"Oh, is that all? I thought it was a real crisis," Cassidy chuckled softly. "Director King, take my car. I'll drop you off."
Before he could politely decline, she signaled her bodyguard to hurry her driver along.
In less than thirty seconds, a sleek sedan pulled up to the lobby entrance.
Rubbing her temples in sheer exhaustion, she gritted out, "I told you, do not interrupt me when I'm conducting business. If you have a problem, I'll explain it when we get home!"
"Explain? Explain what?! This is the fourth time I've caught you two together!"
"It's work!"
"Work? Work requires you two to roll around in matching wheelchairs and ride home in the same car?"
"Parker, I don't have time for your childish tantrums!" She glared at him with glacial intensity. "You can drive your friends home, and I can give my business partner a lift."
It was a perfectly logical defense.
But it only sent Parker into a deeper spiral of rage. "So you admit it?!"
At that moment.
Silas shifted out of the car. Balancing on his good leg, he leaned casually against the open door frame. A mocking smirk tugged at his lips as he looked at Cassidy. "It seems the young master here is quite dissatisfied with our professional partnership."
