Nora's brow furrowed tightly as she listened.
Cassidy crooked a finger at her, lowering her voice. "Do you remember when he was giving you a hard time? I told you I'd handle it."
Nora sighed. "Stop worrying about me."
"No, I need to worry." Cassidy's eyes narrowed slightly. Her tone remained calm, but her gaze grew sharp.
"I set a trap for him. Doesn't Parker love chasing after Seraphina? Doesn't Seraphina love using men to secure business deals? I specifically assigned Division Two a project that would benefit the Sinclairs. I made sure they hyped it up in the group chats, tagged everyone, and basically shoved it right in Parker's face."
"I wanted him to practically hand the project over to Seraphina. I wanted him to cause a massive loss for the firm, and then I was going to force him to grovel and apologize to us."
"But halfway through the plan, his mother found out."
"She told me not to lose sight of the bigger picture."
This was the first Nora had heard of any of this.
She quickly said, "You really don't need to do this for me. Parker was only targeting me to defend Seraphina. It had nothing to do with you, so don't take the blame for it."
Cassidy shook her head. "No. If it wasn't for me, you wouldn't have had to listen to his filthy insults."
Nora suddenly realized that Cassidy placed an incredible amount of weight on loyalty.
It wasn't a bad thing.
But with her boundless ambition, letting her emotions guide her could eventually become a heavy burden as she climbed the corporate ladder.
She was destined for the penthouse suite of power.
When you're standing on the ground floor, the critics' voices are at their sharpest and most piercing.
Move up a level, and the noise is still deafening.
By the time you hit the tenth floor, the hate fades into a faint buzz; you can only make out the loudest shouts.
And when you reach the hundredth floor and look down, everything on the ground becomes a blurry speck, and the criticism fades into total silence.
Yet she was constantly letting herself get dragged down by the petty drama on the ground.
Cassidy valued relationships above all else. Not just with her friends, but with her family as well, clinging to them with a stubborn reluctance to let go.
"Relax, I've hired a private doctor and a full-time nurse. I just don't want to stay in this sterile room anymore."
Her assistant packed up the files, her security took the luggage, and the doctor came in for a quick final check before officially clearing her to leave.
Judging by the smooth coordination, this had clearly been planned in advance.
Nora looked at her, hesitant to speak. "Are you..."
Cassidy pressed an index finger to her lips, making a 'shush' motion. "Not a word."
Nora finally relented with a sigh. "You'd better actually be okay."
Smiling, Cassidy gestured for her bodyguard to bring over the wheelchair.
She slid out of bed with extreme caution.
The bodyguard wheeled her out into the hallway, with Nora walking quietly by her side.
They took the elevator down, and just as they reached the inpatient lobby, they ran straight into Silas, who was also sitting in a wheelchair.
