"They were probably just talking business," Nora said.
Cassidy looked astonished. "Wow, you're that enlightened?"
Nora sighed, exasperated. "We're both still on vacation. He knew I was going out to see you, and I knew he was waiting for me at home. For him to suddenly show up at the firm right as Seraphina's car pulled in means they obviously had a scheduled business meeting."
"You have a point." Cassidy stared at Nora in silence for a few seconds before adding, "But I don't know why, your energy feels incredibly low today."
"What?"
"It's just a feeling... Even though you're talking, you act like you couldn't care less about anything."
"Really?"
"Yeah." A thought struck Cassidy, and she poked Nora's arm. "Wait, weren't you supposed to give me a report today?"
"A report on what?"
"On the results of my brilliant mentoring from yesterday!"
"Oh, right," Nora said.
After Parker Quincy's dramatic interruption that morning, Nora had almost forgotten why she came.
It wasn't exactly a report.
Nora had just wanted to review the communication strategies Cassidy had taught her.
But thinking back on it, she had already achieved what she set out to do yesterday.
It was just...
When it was all bottled up inside, she felt suffocated.
Yet, even after laying it all out on the table, she didn't feel much better.
Nora tilted her head, her gaze dropping to her lap. "Yeah..."
She looked every bit the picture of melancholy.
"You're acting really weird today." Cassidy reached forward from the backseat to feel Nora's forehead. "You're not sick, are you?"
"No."
"You're not pregnant, are you?"
"...No."
"Then tell me, how did your conversation go yesterday?"
