Nora: "...Maloney doesn't want kids."
Cassidy: "Why doesn't he want kids?"
"Don't change the subject." Nora poked Cassidy's arm with her index finger. "Why is it so different after having a baby?"
"You start putting the child first in your life."
"There's no way."
"I know, but I can't control my brain."
Nora paused, then asked, "So, are you calling off the divorce?"
Cassidy stayed silent much longer than Nora had.
She rubbed her arms and said, "Forget it, I still have to divorce him. You just mentioned spending every weekend taking Maddie out with Parker. I pictured it, and it honestly made me feel a little sick."
Even though she said that.
The look on her face clearly still held a trace of hesitation.
Could having a baby really hold that much power over someone?
Nora looked at Cassidy and asked out of the blue, "Are you going to get back together with Parker?"
"Of course not!"
That answer, at least, was completely resolute.
"If he's actually changed, aren't you going to give him another chance?"
"Changed how?!"
Bringing this up reignited Cassidy's fiery spirit. "Did you forget the screenshot I sent to the group chat yesterday? Seraphina literally texted me this morning to mock me! Do you think I have no pride left?!"
"I assumed you didn't." Nora's gaze was piercing. "Thirty seconds ago, you were considering staying married."
This was the first time Cassidy had ever been verbally cornered by Nora.
