Maloney had never been this clingy before.

They used to live like roommates.

She thought they'd have more time, but then she opened her studio. Capitalizing on her overseas fame, she took on massive projects, spinning like a top all week. The weekend remained their only window for intimacy.

Recently, because she was designing Jasmine's wedding dress, she had cleared her schedule. She had originally planned to use this downtime to finalize their divorce.

Instead, the divorce fell through, and things had taken a sharp turn into uncharted territory.

Maloney pulled her tighter against his chest. "What's wrong?"

"Why do you always ambush me in the foyer?" she mumbled.

"You won't let me touch you in public, and now I can't touch you at home?" he murmured flatly.

"That's not what I meant. I'm literally just trying to take off my shoes. You can wait thirty seconds."

Maloney effortlessly hoisted her onto the entryway bench. Dropping to one knee, he lifted her ankle and slipped off her sneakers for her.

"There," he said, placing the shoes in the closet. "Can I hold you now?"

Nora stared at him.

Did he completely miss the point?

She opened her mouth, but no words came out.

Maloney didn't wait for an answer anyway.

Hooking an arm under her knees, he stood up, lifting her off the bench with ridiculous ease.

Nora let out a tiny gasp.

Supporting her back, his voice dropped to a gravelly murmur near her ear. "Do you have any other plans today?"
