Maloney's brow deeply furrowed.

Sensing the rapid drop in temperature, Jasper quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "Whoa, hold on, Ms. Sinclair. Maloney is a major CEO now. He's managing a million things a day, it's normal for him to be busy."

Turning to Maloney, Jasper added, "If there's an emergency at the office, don't worry about it. Go ahead and take off."

Maloney glanced at his luxury watch. "I need to be home before eight."

Jasper blinked, then let out a dry laugh. "Haha, wow, the wife runs a tight ship."

He was desperately trying to keep the mood light.

Seraphina's face darkened further. "What, you get married and suddenly you don't need your friends anymore?"

"You married Nora, right? There's no way she's that petty."

"Speaking of which, when you and Nora had your shotgun wedding, you didn't even invite me." Seraphina suddenly took a step closer to Maloney, her voice dropping. "Tell me, what was the meaning behind that?"

The gesture crossed the line into undeniable intimacy.

Earlier, Seraphina had leaned in close to Parker, but no one batted an eye.

But seeing her close the distance with Maloney completely shifted the energy in the room. It felt electric and wildly inappropriate.

"The invitation to my wedding was sent to the Sinclair family. If you didn't receive it, you should ask your parents, not me," Maloney stated coldly. "Furthermore, when your father was hospitalized last week, your brother asked me as a favor to pick you up from the airport. I did. Halfway there, you demanded to go to a hotel for dinner, and I dropped you off there."

"Beyond that, I agreed to nothing, and I owe you nothing."

With that final, crushing statement, Maloney bypassed Seraphina and walked out the door.

"You..." The color drained completely from Seraphina's face.

His words had been relentlessly brutal and stripped of any affection.
