Chapter 185: A Heart Tested
EIRLYS’ POV
I felt him before I saw him. My breath caught, every part of me going still-yet trembling all the
same.
Claim
The air thickened, dense with a power I could never mistake, not even beyond lifetimes. Through the thinning veil of light, something vast emerged: scales of silver and blue, refracting Heavenreach’s radiance like shards of living crystal
My knees buckled, and I clung to Nibbles’ fur, the ground spinning beneath me.
Then I saw those eyes. Blue, streaked with silver, blazing down at me.
He circled above, magnificent and terrible, his vast wings folding with a sound like thunder exhaling. My heart swelled until it hurt. He was as remembered him-untamed, unbroken-but
burning brighter.
Then came the voices. Familiar ones, calling my name.
I gasped. He wasn’t alone:
Riding on his back were people I thought I’d never see again.
Kierygan’s dragon was still midair when Orryx and Callum leapt from his spine, shifting mid-descent into their wolf forms. A shimmer of magic followed. Ulyanna, Scylla, and Solara
appeared before me in a sweep of light.
A sudden whoosh stirred my hair-Evander had just phased in.
Then Ashteryn landed heavily beside them, the mirrored floor quivering beneath his weight.
My throat tightened before a sound broke free-a choked mix of laughter and sobs.
They were all there. All the ones I’d lost-alive… or something beyond life.
I stumbled as I ran to them, tears blurring everything into light and motion. My arms found each of
them in turn.
My hands clutched at their shoulders, their sleeves, their armor, as if touch alone could keep them
from vanishing. “How?” I breathed, my voice shaking. “How is this possible? How are you here?”
Callum only shrugged, utterly unfazed. “We flew here,” he said, as though that explained the impossible. A wet, broken laugh escaped me anyway.
Evander caught me last, spinning me halfway around before setting me down, his quiet laughter mingling with the glint in his eyes. “Can you believe t?” he said. “Kierygan actually let someone else
ride his back. Other than you, that is.”

Then, the sound of steady, familiar footsteps drew my gaze. My heart leapt. Shifted back to human, Kierygan advanced toward me, every step echoing the authority I could never ignore.
Without a second thought, I spread my wings and surged forward. I collided with him, arms and legs locking around his form, nearly knocking him off balance. He gripped me with equal intensity, pulling me close.
I cupped his face, pressing quick, desperate butterfly kisses across his jawline, forehead, and lips.
The world shrank to him. To us. To the warmth I had feared lost forever.
I pulled back just enough to meet his eyes, my voice trembling. “Are you really here?” I whispered. You’re… really alive?”
Kierygan’s chest rumbled with a low, rolling laugh. A shadow of amusement flickered across his frown. “Why would you even ask that?” he said. “Of course, I’m alive. We all are.”
Kierygan set me down, but his hands lingered on my arms, anchoring me. My gaze swept over the group that had closed the distance to join us, and my voice cracked in disbelief. “But… you all aged and died,” I murmured, hands trembling.
I turned back to Kierygan, my throat tight with emotion. “I’ve been gone for seventy years. I… I held you as you died. I burned your body on the pyre.”
Kierygan’s brow furrowed, a deep crease forming between his eyes, his blue-and-silver gaze narrowing at me. He stared as if I had lost my mind.
Callum stepped closer, arms crossed, one brow raised. “Did you… by chance hit your head really hard on the way here?”
I shook my head, trying to steady my voice. “But… it’s true!”
”
Ulyanna spoke this time, her tone gentle, though I thought I caught the edge of a suppressed smile. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said. “You were just away for a few hours. We followed you here as soon as we found Nibbles, who had run off somewhere when you were taken.
I blinked rapidly, my mind spinning, trying to reconcile what I had seen on Earth with what they were telling me. It couldn’t have been just a dream the pain was too real, still raw in my chest.
I swept a questioning gaze over the six celestial guardians, searching for answers, until my eyes landed on Orion, my father. His expression remained unreadable, but a sharp edge cut through his gaze as he turned to Seraphael.
“I see you subjected her to one of your trials,” he said, his voice calm but edged with steel.
My chest tightened as realization hit-every trial, every searing moment of pain I had endured, had been deliberate. A test. I gripped Kierygan’s hand instinctively, unsure whether to feel relief, anger,

or betrayal.

Seraphael’s voice cut through the charged air, calm yet weighted. “We deemed it necessary to test her heart,” he said. “It may serve her… in her judgment.”.
Orion’s voice rolled like thunder across the vast expanse, shaking the air itself. “No judgment shall be carried out today other than mine.” His golden eyes swept the assembly before finally resting on me. “You have already seen the consequences when the tether to magic-the only anchor for Earth-is removed. That alone is sufficient proof.”
Helios shook his head. “First, we see through the steward’s eyes.”
“Very well,” Orion replied calmly, then nodded toward Nibbles. “Lepus, come forward.”
The horned rabbit obeyed, and the Celestials leaned closer, studying him intently. I watched as their expressions shifted, as if they perceived something imperceptible to us.
After a moment, they all straightened-silent, speechless. Nibbles stepped back and returned to join the two hounds settled on the floor.
Orion’s voice carried again, firm and certain. “You see? My daughter spoke the truth.”
He paced a few steps, stopping with measured gravity. “And while we honor the law of balance and order, we also honor the law of continuity. My daughter carries the next line-the continuation of the fae… and of dragons.”
A collective gasp rose from my friends beside me. Kierygan’s grip on my hand tightened, his head dipping slightly as awe and disbelief danced in his eyes. His voice wavered. “Is it true, Eirlys?
You’re… with child?”
I could not speak. Shock held me in its grip, my mind spinning, and my body suspended between joy and fear. All this time, I thought the Light Reaper had shattered something inside me. Now I understood-it had been because a life was growing within me.
Orion’s gaze softened, a rare warmth threading through his usual stern presence. Then, as if the first revelation weren’t staggering enough, he added another truth that left my chest tightening. You are with children,” he said, his voice steady, carrying undeniable certainty. “Twins.”
”
For a long, fragile moment, no one spoke. My heartbeat stuttered, tripping over itself as I tried to breathe. Kierygan’s thumb brushed over my knuckles, and I clung to that touch as the world tilted beneath me.
Then, as if the silence could no longer bear its own weight, it shattered-cheers rising around us.
Kierygan pulled me into his arms, holding me as though I might vanish again. His breath shuddered against my temple before he pressed his forehead to mine, the warmth of him sinking deep into my chest. Then, with reverent gentleness, he kissed my brow.
