Chapter 188: Legacy of Light and Fire
KIERYGAN’S POV
One year later.
Claim
The scent of wildflowers stirred me from sleep-sweet and faint, like spring breathing against my
skin. When I opened my eyes, I was greeted by a spill of silver-white hair across the pillow, my nose
buried in its softness.
I drew back, just enough to see her-lips parted, lashes resting against flushed cheeks, her breath
brushing my chest in slow, steady rhythm. But my arms refused to move.
She lay nestled against me, our bodies still entwined, naked and warm beneath the sheets.
Morning light spilled over her skin, gilding every line in molten gold. The faint glow still clinging to her made her look otherworldly.
Then a sound broke the silence. A small, sharp cry.
I sighed softly through my nose. I didn’t need to look to know whose cry that was. Aurora.
Always the fierce one.
Between our twins, she was the one who cried more. Asterion, though quieter, demanded to be fed
often and slept longer. He had his mother’s calm, intelligent expression. Aurora, on the other hand,
burned with my fire-figuratively and literally.
I shifted, brushing a stray lock from Eirlys’s face. She stirred almost instantly, lashes fluttering as
her eyes found mine, already alert.
“I’ll get her,” she whispered, her voice still soft with sleep.
I shook my head. “No. Rest a little longer,” I murmured, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “I exhausted you enough last night. I’ll take care of her.”
Her cheeks flushed, but she stretched and sat up anyway. “I should be getting up,” she murmured,
wrapping herself in a black silk robe. “Big day ahead, remember?”
The soft cry came again-sharper this time, insistent. Eirlys giggled, and we hurried across the
chambers together to where a cradle of carved moonwood waited by the window.
Inside, two tiny forms lay swaddled in soft cloth. Aurora’s little fists waved in the air, dark hair a
tousled halo around her face, while her brother blinked up at the light, kicking and reaching with
quiet curiosity.

Asterion was all Eirlys-silver-haired, soft-featured, with faintly pointed ears and an expression far
too thoughtful for someone so small.

Aurora, though… she was mine through and through. Dark hair, fierce little scowl, a cry that could rattle the halls. Yet both shared their mother’s eyes-amethyst and bright.
Two halves of a single legacy. Fae and dragon. Light and flame.
I leaned down and pressed a kiss to my son’s forehead, rewarded with the sweetest toothless smile, before scooping Aurora into my arms. She hiccuped, then quieted almost instantly, burrowing against my chest.
Eirlys watched our daughter with a soft smile and a sigh. “So clingy,” she murmured, before gently lifting Asterion into her arms.
I couldn’t help but smile as I watched her rock our son, then returned my gaze to Aurora. “They’re perfect,” I whispered, awe threading through my voice.
The gentle hum of morning was broken by a soft knock on the door.
“Come in,” I called.
Grace and Emma stepped inside, smiling, their arms laden with baskets of freshly laundered
blankets and tiny glass bottles. Sunlight followed them in, catching the soft steam rising from the
warm milk within. Their faces lit up the moment they saw the twins.
“Good morning, Your Majesties,” Grace greeted with a small curtsy. “The nursery is ready, and the
little ones must be hungry by now.”
I carefully passed Aurora into Grace’s waiting arms, while Eirlys handed Asterion to Emma.
“We’ll see you soon, little ones,” Eirlys whispered, pressing a kiss to each tiny forehead. I followed her lead, brushing my lips against theirs in farewell
When the door clicked shut, I released a long breath and turned to Eirlys.
“Shall we?” I asked, nodding toward the bath.
She smiled softly and slipped her hand into mine. Together, we stepped inside, letting the warmth
of the water chase away the remnants of the night.
A short while later, bathed, dressed, and refreshed, we descended the grand staircase hand in hand, heading toward the dining hall to begin the day.
The scent of roasted meats and fresh bread filled the hall as Eirlys and I entered the dining
chamber. The council was already gathered.
Callum, newly appointed as my second, sat proudly at my left-a seat that once belonged to Orryx. He raised his hand in greeting, a faint smile playing at his lips. Beside him sat Thorin, the new commander, occupying the place Callum once held

chair when the heavy doors swung open again.
Two familiar presences entered before I even looked up.
“Hope we’re not late for breakfast,” Orryx drawled as he and Solara strode inside.

I arched a brow, though the corner of my mouth threatened a smile. “Don’t you have a kingdom to run?” I asked. “You’re here almost every day.”
Orryx just shrugged, unbothered. “Am I not welcome here anymore?”
Eirlys laughed softly. “Of course, you’re always welcome, both of you.”
Solara inclined her head in agreement as she slid into the seat beside Eirlys. “The food is far better here in Solmere,” she said lightly. “And besides, we wanted to visit the twins.”
I shook my head, though not in disapproval. I had kept my promise. Vargheim now belonged to the werewolves. I entrusted it to someone I knew would rule with fairness, command the respect of other Alphas, and protect it with his life.
I gave it to Orryx-now King Orryx-alongside his queen, Solara.
And I could think of no one more worthy to bear that crown.
Orryx tore a piece of bread with a lazy grin. “Since we’ll be meeting for the ceremony at Val’Thirael later,” he said around a bite, “Solara and I thought we’d stop by so we could travel together.”
Evander set his goblet down with a faint clink. “That reminds me,” he said, casual but apologetic at the edges. “Father won’t be able to make it. He’s still sailing in from the continent.”
Callum snorted. “He can phase over water. He could be here by midday if he wanted.”
Evander laughed. “True. But ever since he abdicated, he’s been trying to live as humanly as possible. Stubborn about it.” He flashed that conspiratorial smile and glanced at Ulyanna and Scylla. “Don’t worry. He accepted the teaching post you offered.”
Ulyanna’s lips twitched into a small, satisfied smile. “Good,” she said coolly. “Or I’ll drag him here
myself.”
We arrived in Vallea Illura just as the sun spilled gold across the spires of the Stellar Palace. Eirlys had insisted on coming early, eager to see the east wing-her gift to Ulyanna and Scylla, now being transformed into a school.
I watched her walk ahead, beaming, Nibbles tucked in her arms, listening intently as Ulyanna and Scylla showed her the changes made for the future students.
When she returned to me, her smile was radiant. “What do you think?” she asked.
