She could see as she got into the car that the Gamma for the Forest of Light didn’t much like the way she put things. Knew she was mated to an Alpha, and the way she’d spoken just now was as if she had no concern for him whatsoever. He’d likely pick that up from her as well,

loud and clear.

“You are aware that it is myself, not just some pack member that needs your help. That it is the Alpha to my pack that has two Mates that are not mated to each other, and I’m the one he doesn’t care about, right?” she laid it all out for both of them, just in case.

“I am.” Maddy nodded. “I didn’t pass that knowledge to my Mate due to confidentiality.”

She heard Palmer sigh from the front seat. “My apologies. I didn’t know anything other than another Luna was coming to speak with Maddy in an effort to help a she–wolf struggling in a multiple mate bond where she felt left out.”

“Left out is not the word. Abandoned is the correct word. He abandoned me to suffer my heat alone to be with her. Admitted he did it willingly because his other Mate asked him not to tend to me.”

She found Palmer’s eyes on her now in the review mirror, and they were wide with horror. She just nodded to him. “I’m also not about to suffer it again, which will happen. She’s got him wound around her little finger and I barely exist to him, Gamma. So don’t think I’m betraying the Mate Bond or my pack by being here. I’m actively helping the pack all the time.

“I won’t let them suffer just because he’s weak as piss. You tell me what you think would happen if I got pregnant and his other Mate wasn’t. Do you think, from what you just heard, she’d come after me? After the pup? Because that is the consensus of not only my unit but my own Gamma too, as well as Dana now.

“Anthony wants me off birth control, stated he wants me to birth the actual heir to the pup, and has voiced it aloud for her, his other Mate to hear. I’m damned certain either I or the pup wouldn’t survive her. That is just one of the reasons I come here. The other is that no she–wolf should be left to her heat unattended unless it’s unforeseen. That being their mate is off pack territory and has to rush back.

“If your mate can do what I want, it can be distributed to others like myself and the problem will be solved. That Mate that gets abandoned will no longer have to concern herself with going into heat. Then there is that 3% of she–wolves, like myself, gut themselves in an effort to ruin their own bodies and stop their future heats because they can no longer conceive a

pup. I’m also aiming to stop that.

“So what I’m doing here is for the greater good of all otherworldly females, and my Mate he can suck it the fuck up. Seeing as he doesn’t care. Plays at caring, but doesn’t. I know this because I can be standing in a room with him, and he doesn’t even know I’m there unless

someone brings me up, or I speak.

“No longer even feels where I am, doesn’t register my scent to himself or his beast. Only thinks about me if he needs me to do something as the Luna or pack’s account for him. I’m just a Luna on paper to him and nothing more,” she informed him. “You may have a good Alpha in this pack, but not all of us are so lucky.”

She heard the Gamma sigh before speaking, “This pack didn’t have a good Alpha for a long time until ours took over. I do understand, I just didn’t realize this was the extent of

everything. My apologies if you thought I was judging you. I did not have all the facts because Maddy is good at keeping things private and confidential. Doesn’t talk about things if she is asked not to.”

“Good,” Mischa nodded. “Because it’s none of my Mates concern what I do with my life anymore. He’s opted to live his life completely separate from mine, but won’t reject me, so now he has to suffer the consequences of his own actions.”

“You could just reject him,” Maddy stated. “Why haven’t you out of curiosity?”

“That is because his other Mate has only been around for 2 and a half years now, I’ve been his Mate for 22 and a half. So it has to be him that rejects me or, I’ll be seen as the one that

can’t handle him having a second Mate. Whereas if he rejects me, what’s the reason after 22 and a half years of being together and happily so for all to see?”

“He may never,” Maddy muttered, “Alphas can be cruel pieces of shit sometimes. I understand that, came from a place that didn’t care for its she–wolves, they were used just for breeding or to be sold as commodities to make money for the Alpha that came in and took over the pack when I was little.”

Mischa looked at her and frowned deeply. “That is not a good thing.”

“No, I escaped and made a life for myself,” Maddy told her.

“You’re home pack?” she questioned curiously.

“I told the Alpha Council who the Alpha was and the pack. Years ago, they went in and cleaned house, so to speak, seated an Alpha and gave him a unit of their own choosing ones they knew to be good. It’s better there for them now. Though I have never once gone back, have no inclination to do so, nothing left there for me,” Maddy told her.

“You could do that, contact the council,” Palmer stated from the driver’s seat.

“That would be a complete waste of the Alpha Council’s time when I can deal with it in–house. I have my own plans and I will see them to fruition as well to a timeline that suits me. His other Mate set things into motion, and I’m actively going to have her incite of her own free will again. Showing just how dumb she really is. Once I’ve gotten what I want, I’ll actually walk away. There is no need for the Council to go in and clean house, as Maddy puts

“When I walk away, it’s likely half the pack will as well, and the Elders will clean house themselves. They are aware of all that is going on, have warned and warned him even with his other Mate right there. Threatened him with the Council at one point. It’s now down to an Alpha Duel between him and the three male Alpha Elders inside the pack.” She half smiled to herself.

“So they actually believe if you leave it will be a detriment to the pack,” Palmer murmured.

“Hmm, it will be. I’ll take our biggest alley with along with any business deals I make or have made in the past. I’m also the pack’s lead accountant. So it won’t just be half the pack, and a Luna, but the pack accountant and half his allies. He’s just not figured it out yet, when even my own unit and Gamma, the Elders, have all figured it out. Blind to everything that isn’t Christy related so to speak.”

“Sounds like there’s black magic involved,” Palmer muttered.

“There isn’t. I saw them scent each other out with my own eyes, and I didn’t die when he marked and mated her, felt no pains of betrayal before he did that or at any time since. She’s his actual second Mate.”

“Dana gave me a lot to go through, and I’ve read it all. I had some questions for you, but I think with all you’ve said you’ve answered them all bar one,” Maddy stated.

“Ask I’m an open book for those that want to help me.” Mischa nodded.

“How did she take over and see you become nothing to your Mate?” Maddy asked.

“It’s believed that she overlaid her scent atop of mine, in every way possible. We had separate suites originally, but from the moment she weaseled her way into my suite; and by that I mean she begged and pleaded with Anthony about having never seen inside the Alpha Suite, because that was mine and his for 20 years.

“She was given the Luna Suite, and he had it renovated to be as big and grand as the Alpha Suite, and we had a rule that neither I nor her would go into the other’s suite. That was our own personal space with our Mate. He caved and took her into my suite and, well, everything kind of started to fall apart really quickly after that.

“I found them having sex on our bed, and he snarled at me to get out, so I did. I moved right

out of the suite for good. Then she managed to get him to take her into my other suite during my heat, no less. I have since moved from that suite to a new one.”

“Right…” Maddy murmured, and she could see the woman was now thinking about things.

“Has she tried to get into your new suite?” Palmer asked curiously.

“No, not even Anthony has the code for it. I claimed a suite that is designated for the Wolfen Council and has a different locking system. Only those I know and trust have the code. If he or Christy are ever in there, that will tell me he or Christy has ordered one of the five that have the code. And he was informed by myself that I would simply reject him if he took Christy into my new suite. She’s already got three, because she can’t not go into a suite where she’s not welcome.”

“He stuck to that?” Palmer asked now.

“So far,” Mischa nodded. “I think the only reason he won’t, or Christy can’t get him to reject me is because how will he explain it to the allies. 20 years of a good loving Mate Bond, and he just tosses it aside for a 2–year bond. It will all fall on him or Christy herself. Though she is actively trying to get one of us to reject the other. In a roundabout way, that will see it not be her fault at all.” She shook her head.

“Ah, his reputation is on the line, in other words. All the allies will see it as he’s unworthy and abandon him if they love their own Luna,” Palmer nodded. “Doesn’t sound like much fun in your pack.”

“Correct. But fun that can be discerned in many different ways. I no longer care at all, but enjoy watching that girl dig herself a hole. Did that just last night because I called to tell Anthony about my change of travel plans, and she answered the phone and opted not to let me speak with him, so he’s unaware of the change of plans.

“I warned her she’d have to suffer the consequences, and she laughed at me, told me there was no way she could be blamed for anything to do with me seeing as I was in California, and she’s in the pack in North Dakota.

“She really doesn’t disappoint sometimes with just how dumb she is Palmer. That call she refused to put through. Could have been from me telling him I was on the run, being hunted or that I had been, in fact, kidnapped. I could have needed his actual help and, well… If I had whose fault, would it be if I didn’t come home or got brutalized and sold off.”
