She walked with Maddy after breakfast through the pack to what she thought was a house for a pack member, but as they walked up the steps the door read Mad Mad Maddy’s Lab. Maddy chuckled. “Originally it stated Madson’s Tech Labs.” Got switched out during one of my heats by the heir to the pack, Ocean. Sneaky girl didn’t even tell anyone she’d had that sign made, got her Uncle Art to do it and attach it to my Lab.”
“Mad Mad Maddy?” Mischa smiled as they pushed into the house.
“When Ocean was little, she couldn’t say Madison, but got out mad and then Maddy and one day it rolled together to be mad Maddy, Ana, or Oriana, as you know her, thought it was very funny and, well so did I. It kind of evolved into Ocean saying mad mad Maddy as she learned to talk. A running joke still all these years later,” Maddy told her.
“The day I came down here and saw that sign, I burst out laughing. Thought it was funny, it’s a good memory for me hearing a tiny Ocean call me mad mad Maddy. Brought back a good flood of memories…” she shrugged. “I left it there, like it,” she stated with a smile.
This house they were in, had been modified quite a bit, there was no kitchen at all in this house and every room downstairs and upstairs bar the two dedicated bathrooms had been turned into individual lab spaces. “No one is allowed to eat in any of my labs. This allows those of us that are buried in our work, having to get up and leave when we’re hungry and forces us out of the lab,” Maddy explained to her as they walked through the building.
As she walked, she looked at the doors. They were almost like the ones in Obsidian, white with a glass window panel on the top half. Next to each door was a small chalk board with a project name written on it, and a hanging clipboard under that.
“Do you work all by yourself here, on all these projects?” Mischa asked curiously.
“No, I’ve got a whole team of tech’s. We’re not really like other workers that do 9 to 5, we work odd hours at the best of times. Because who knows when inspiration is going to hit. It could be 10pm or 3am when a lightbulb goes off in us, and off we go to the lab, regardless of the time of day or night.
“I and the techs work whatever hours we want. You’ll find a fair few work in the wee hours of
the morning. She stopped at the door to one room and pointed out the hanging clipboard with names and times. “We just log in with our name and time, write the time we leave the lab.” She shrugged. It gives me at a quick glance an overall picture of who’s working on what.”
“You just up and leave your suite in the middle of the night?” Mischa asked curiously.
“Hmm, at times, it can’t be helped. Palmer understands, he was a little frustrated at first but

learned quickly I’ll just stare him down and tell him to go away and deal with it. We came to a compromise in the end, that I go to bed when he does, and I have got a lab in our suite now.” Maddy smiled at her, “That way, when I get hit with inspiration during the night, I don’t leave the suite. That actually solved the problem of me not being there when he wakes up.”
Maddie walked them up the stairs and to the last room down the hall and jotted her name and the time on the clip board even wrote Luna Mischa of Night Whispers in the column that read guests. And pushed in through a door that had the words “Heat Reduction.” Written on that small chalk board.
“This one’s not a sterile lab, a Mech lab, not a Med lab. So feel free to look around and read anything you like. If you can understand it, that is. This lab is now all about helping you achieve your goal, and is based on inventing technology around what happened to you and others like yourself. I’m actually glad that you’re here. I didn’t think that you would fit me in or maybe wouldn’t want to give me a face–to–face.”
“Why?” Mischa asked curiously.
“Unaffiliated for one, like you said yesterday. A Luna for second, not many would allow it to be known that their Alpha treats them terribly. Thirdly, how many Lunas allow themselves to be up for being a lab rat, so to speak? Let alone their Alpha Mate allowing it. Many factors could see you not willing to do this,” Maddy stated as she sat down and turned her computer
“I’m willing to help others, and as a Luna I should do that, put others before myself when it comes to she–wolves suffering. So here I am to help them as much as I am to help myself. A win–win situation, I guess it how I see it.
“If you can do this, and we can get rid of that 3% that destroy their own womb and the ability to have children, even if it just brings that 3% down to 1%, it would be worth it. I’m willing to let the experiments be done on me, because I know my Mate will choose his other regardless. So… I’m also the best candidate and I have two heats a year so, twice a year, you can test out new ideas. I also don’t really want to be in heat and have to let him mate me through it anymore.” She shrugged it off as she walked about the room. “Am uncaring of him as much as he is of me nowadays,” she told Maddy honestly.
“Alright, I believe it will help things move much faster as well. I’ll be taking a page out of the human world book, so to speak, and combining that with wolfen technology, to hopefully create what we need. Thinking that like how humans use medical implants for birth control, that bar in the arm which uses etonogestrel, a hormone that stops ovulation in not only
humans but mammals as well.”
“So all I have to do is tailor it to a Wolfen Folks heat cycle hormone, but that is where it gets tricky, and a little more on the difficult side, due to our specific biology, though Dana has sent

me through your blood work and hormone levels already. So all medical things we’ve agreed will be done by Dana and Dariah, our pack doctor, if need be, and all the tech, will be me and my team in the Lab.
“We have already theorized that we’ll need the individual pheromones from the she–wolves or other creatures that want this for themselves due to our biology and the way we’re created. Hence, why I need you here in the pack? To take some. But I also can’t guarantee it will be effective; normal pheromones of our kind are different to our heat pheromones again.” She sighed. “So what I really need is your or their heat pheromones while you’re in heat to test that very thing.
“Because the device will have a specific use, stopping the heat only, it’s not contraception, so to speak. I want it to only activate to stop the heat itself, one task only. That makes it less complicated to create.
“Though again, that would mean anyone using it would actually have to go into heat themselves, for it to be triggered, and become active and shut the heat down, or that is my theory at this point.”
“It’s logical,” Mischa nodded, “and I didn’t even really think it was possible, so I was only hoping for it to reduce my heat realistically. Maybe drop the days down from four to like two or one days only, or reduce the bouts of heat I have per day. Stopping it altogether would be a full blessing, but I figured that would also be a difficult task to achieve.”
“Hmm, it is likely something that we will have to continue to study and research into, because the device within time could be designed to detect increasing hormones in the body that signify when a heat is about to start and be activated that way. That is the end goal. But again, it will take time to develop,” Maddy told her.
“An implant could be problematic, and get rejected when the she–wolf shifts,” Mischa commented.
“Mm, that is the other problem we need to resolve, keeping the implant in the body all the time. I’m still working on that one because it’s unlikely you’d know it was ejected during a shift. It will likely have to be placed somewhere in the body that has minimal effect from our bodies shifting back and forth. Again, a trial and error process.
“Though my little prodigy stated to surgically attach it to a bone with medical webbing of some sort. I kind of just stared at her because that actually might work, the webbing would be grafted to the bone and be stretchy for lack of a better word. That way, when the bones break and shift it’ll stay attached, and can be jostled about a little and not be ejected by the shift.”
“That’s a pretty good theory,” Mischa murmured, “Who’s your prodigy?”

“Ocean, the heir to the pack, she’s been on my lap in the lab on and off all her life, took to being a tech like fish to water. She will grow up to be a tech, as well as the reigning Alpha.” Maddy smiled. “She also thinks outside the box as much as I do.”
“I can see that. I also think you’ll nourish her mind,” Mischa chuckled.
“I do, she’s allowed in here anytime she likes… So, now to onto the very reason I have you here, as you can see, it’s all pretty much planned out, and I’ve actually already got a few volunteers from inside this pack, who are willing to test the bar when it’s created. Your situation, however, is pressing and getting closer with every day that passes. Your heat is due when exactly?”
“The first week of May, can be averaged out to start on the 3rd or 4th of May each year,” Mischa answered simply.
“So, in like 14 or 15 days, seeing as today is the 19th,” Maddy nodded.
“You’re not going to have this ready by then, are you?” Mischa asked. “I was hoping you called me here because you had a way to actively reduce my heat.”
“Another in the pack believes she can help with that, not a permanent or what I consider
reliable intervention, but is likely to work.”
“Not reliable?” Mischa frowned even though she was interested in the rest of that statement.
“Hmm, it’s not an implant, so it can be lost or not on you when your heat comes, therefore not what I call a permanent solution or reliable. I do, however, believe it will be more effective than what I can come up with, so… I had you brought here to talk it out.
“You’ve now seen my side of all this, and now I will take you through the pack to see a light fairy that lives here, who can imbue things with her magic. She heard me discussing it and stated she knows how to create something of use. Though… that also came via the old ways of the Fairy realm and is kind of frowned upon how it’s done considering the pack’s history.
“But I’m open–minded to all possibilities and discussions. There’ll be a full open disclosure agreement where that option is concerned, no pattern pending on it either, as far as I’m aware. It will also be completely up to you if you want this option and well. There will also be rules around it, governed in all likelihood by the Wolfen Council.”
“I’ll hear it,” Mischa stated.
