Bearing the Consequences

Mischa watched as Christy turned and looked at her wide–eyed now as it dawned on her exactly what she’d done, that Anthony might have forgiven her before, but he’d had time to think about it, hear it as an Alpha and assess the full threats that could have come and brought harm to her from Christy’s one very selfish action of simply not putting a calkthrough.

“I did ask you if you could bear the consequences, Christy. Don’t look at me like that as if you’re all innocent. You’re not. You laughed at me and said ‘What consequences? You were a million miles away, and couldn’t be blamed for anything that might happen to me. Do you think that now? Do you think Anthony thinks that now?” she asked.

The answer was no, plain and simple. “If I had been kidnapped and then tortured and brutalized, Anthony would have felt it, and then what would you have done? Deleted the call log? Or implied was cheating on him to cover your own ass!… Or when I was dumped at the pack border broken and bruised, and told him I called, and you didn’t put it through. What then? How would you explain yourself?

“Though if not dumped but tossed away, I wouldn’t have called Anthony at all, I’d likely have called Alpha Nicholas, knowing if you were with Anthony you’d not put the call through yet again. What if it was the Wolfen Council that called him and told him they had me, what had happened, because it was them or another pack had found that saved me?

“And I told them everything; that I called Anthony directly, that you picked up, and refused to put him on the line. Who do you think would be to blame for something that happened to me, even though I was a million miles away? You really need to think about your actions on a grander scale, rather than in the

moment only.

“That is where you go wrong. Your stupid, selfish need to prove to me, I’m nothing in Anthony’s eyes, and you’re the only one he loves. As you, yourself, just told everyone in this room, was your intent. Which shows you didn’t think about the consequences of that one action at all.” She shook her head. “Not very bright are you.”

“I’m sorry… you’re right. I didn’t think it through like that, I now see.” Christy murmured as she lowered her head in an apologetic manner. “It won’t happen again.”

“A little too late as far as I’m concerned, Christy. You’re simply lucky nothing happened to me is all, and nothing more,” Mischa stated.

“15 lashes out on the shaming post,” Anthony stated, and she saw Christy’s head whip up to look at him only to have him stare down at her. She knew he was pulling on his bloodline; she could tell by the hard, dismissive look on his face.

“5 lashes for disrespecting my Mate and Luna, Mischa. 5 lashes for disrespecting me in the exact same manner. That being, you thought you had the right to dictate who either one of us could talk to. Then a further 5 lashes to teach you a lesson not to do it again, and for the possibility of putting Mischa’s life in danger by your one decision that you had no right to make, for myself or Mischa.”

“It wasn’t intentional,” Christy gasped

“It was intentional, it may not have been intentional to bring frarm to her, but…” Anthony grated out. “You, Christy, deliberately chose not to pass that call on to try and put Mischa in her place, about who I love more. That was your intent and so it is intentional, and you must be held accountable for it. But it didn’t stop there now, did it….

“No, you then distracted me, so I couldn’t check my phone to see that Mischa had called for hours. Something you knew I was doing all the time, hourly at that, hoping she would reach out to me. Then you took it another step further and lied to me about her calling, told me you forgot she’d called.

“I now see you did not forget, you simply just had no intention of telling me she called, and then lied again, told me she called to tell me she was on her way home, was all. Nothing to worry about. Which we both now know wasn’t the case. Everything you did, including answering my phone at seeing it was Mischa calling, was intentional on your part.

“Even if your intent wasn’t to see physical harm or have her disappear, your intent, you stated yourself, was to deny her the right to speak with me, and to make her feel unloved and unwanted by me. Something you told me just five days before that you were behaving, trying to get along with Mischa. That was a clear lie as well I now see… Elders?” he asked.

The Elders conferred between themselves for several minutes, as Christy sat there on the floor and looked up at Anthony, tears falling from her eyes. One hand had a hold of his pant leg as if she was pleading with him.

“15 lashes are acceptable from you as punishment dished out by the Alpha of the pack,” May stated, “but then, we as the council, demand another three lashes for each of the lies she told you, and we also want two more for the scent marking smell down near Mischa’s room. We no longer believe that was unintentional either. So, 20 lashes are to be dished out. We also feel three days on the shaming post, 1 day for each of the two accounts of blatantly sowing discord, and 1 day for trying to get away with it.”

Anthony looked at her, “Mischa?” He questioned her to see if she was in agreement with the punishment to be dealt out.

“I no longer care how she’s punished by you or the Elders,” Mischa shrugged. She had her own plans, and this, right here and now, was going to put Anthony and Christy at full odds, as much as she and he were, which was going to force Christy’s hand when Mischa’s heat came, in order to see him go and climb into her bed once more.

He, and, or his beast, appeared mighty ticked off with Christy right this minute. Unlike anything she’d ever seen before, it was likely he’d be sleeping on his own for quite a while, even if it was his own beast forcing his human counterpart to do so.

“I did tell you previously, Christy,” Anthony went on, “That never again would I give you leniency. This is me, your Alpha Mate, and the Alpha to this pack upholding the pack’s laws. Your Alpha making you bear the consequences of your own actions.

“Actions you just admitted in full and are now on record, that show you do deliberately interfere with my trying to regrow my bond with Mischa. Actively sabotaged it on purpose. Wanted her to feel, and I know for a fact from all she said in this very room, that she does feel unloved and unwanted by me, and why? Because of your actions.”

He turned and looked at Mischa. “This was what you said in the car yesterday and now here in the office. I see there are actual, and real, hard to deal with consequences, to that one missed phone call.
