The Eclipsed Life of Luna Mischa (by Jennifer Francis) novel Chapter 162

CH 162

Mischa smiled, Lucinda could play this game with Christy as easily as Mischa herself could, it appeared. But then again, she didn’t think it was that hard to do. Christy wasn’t so bright at all, and her own words showed just how lacking she was in understanding what she’d not only organized for this mating ball.

But what she’d actually said, and what was read between the lines of her words, the clause in their pack alliance around mating balls was specific. She was actually saying, Get lost, I don’t want you here, and everyone in this room knew why, because she’d never been able to get her act past Nick is what. He’d seen right through her from day one.

So getting rid of Nick and the alliance with his pack was now, she could see, at the top of Christy’s list of things to do. She didn’t know, what Nicholas would do the minute their ties were severed, how he did that and what the fallout would be for Night Whispers. She really should go and read those alliances in full and write down the important things that would cause the severing of pack alliance deals.

She also watched Nick smile at his Luna. He liked it when Lucinda was like this. Most Alphas actually did like seeing their Lunas hold their ground. It was a turn on for the most part. They liked good, strong women. His Mate might be tiny, but she was not only stubborn but intelligent as well.

What! I never said that. You’re twisting my words.Christy bit out.

Don’t take that tone with me. I’m simply asking a question. Our pack alliance has very specific clauses that have penalties and ramifications, and you being the Luna in charge, as you claimed to me, to be, just minutes ago. Should be fully aware of what they are, know all your pack alliance deals around mating balls inside and out, as any good Luna would.

Because if you don’t, you could find yourself alienating your allied Luna, that being me, or even an allied Alpha, and then the alliance between the two packs will be severed in full.” Lucinda informed her of what Christy was potentially doing right that minute.

It was all there between the lines. If Christy could read it, that was. In their world, a lot of things were black and white, but a lot of other stuff was unspoken between the lines, words that had to be taken not so lightly. Something she knew Christy wasn’t that good at reading, she couldn’t see the ramifications or fallout of her own actions, because she was only concerned with the here and now.

She was right this minute, trying to find a way to fix the deficit she’d caused to the pack, which had probably ticked Anthony off, Mischa could well imagine. But she’d not thought about the dangers of bringing those unaffiliated packs into the pack. Mischa wondered right now if Christy had been stupid enough to ask one unallied, unknown Alpha if he knew of other packs that were looking to attend a mating ball to help their pack grow.

Which, depending on who that Alpha was, could see him list out his own allies and make deals about coming in and starting a war, taking over the pack and claiming it for themselves, the girl really wasn’t so bright. Could well have just invited her own death, or bloodshed to that pack.

It’s just one mating ball, get over it, you can attend again in July,Christy stated, her voice full of annoyance, and Mischa knew she was going to hang up that phone.

If you hang up on me, the pack’s alliance is over at your doing, Luna Christy.Lucinda rapped out in a harsh tone, before Christy could hang up.

They all waited, and the line didn’t click close. Are you threatening me?Christy snapped. That’s a breach of our pack alliance.

Hmm, is it, because you, Christy, breached it first, not us. It’s why called to give you a chance to apologize and correct it,Lucinda told her simply.

Though it wasn’t a threat, it was a full reality that Christy didn’t understand, she just didn’t like being told what to do was all. But at the same time, she couldn’t afford to further tick Anthony and the pack off, so she was trying to turn it around to make it out that Lucinda was the problem, as she always did, deflecting her stupidity, was now trying to make it out that was Lucinda to blame if the pack alliance was canceled from this conversation.

Apologize to you for what exactly. All I did was push you back to the next mating ball and nothing more.” Christy shot at her. You’re being rude and overly aggressive with me.”

Am I? I think you were the rude one. When you claimed you didn’t know who I was, spoke to me in that I’m going to say higher than thou attitude, of I don’t care to know your name. That is not something any Luna should ever do, it’s completely disrespectful to your allied packs Lunas, which I am one of.

But let me show you just what rude is, Christy. Sit there and shut the hell up, listen to what I have to say and learn from an experienced Lunaseeing as you’re new to the roleI accept that you do not wish to follow the pack alliance agreement between our two packs. I will inform Nicholas that you, Christy, have no interest in maintaining the mating ball clauses of our pack alliance, stated you did not invite us on

purpose.

I will have him contact Luna Mischa, who’s never once even so much as raised her voice to me, is always polite and respectful, has always abided by our pack alliance deal. She has never once gotten annoyed about anything we discuss. Even if it’s a serious issue, we talk calmly and respectfully always.

Something that is expected unless one is looking to sever ties. I see now why Nick has issues with you. You’re too arrogant to see your own actions, words and those of your unspoken words, which imply you don’t care at all, about not only the alliance between our two packs, but your very own pack as well,

And that arrogance you think you have the right to lord about over even your allied Lunas, it will bring about your own downfall, I can only imagine. Because do you think your own Alpha Mate is going to be happy when he hears about thisOh! And he is going to, I guarantee it 100%, he’ll hear about it from myself.

Will he be happy with you, for not only losing us as an allied pack, but in the fact that you, Christy, are rejecting us without his permission? Because that is essentially what you are doing, and is how it will be relayed to Alpha Anthony.

What I never rejected your pack

Shut up and listen, you have no idea what it means to be a Luna that looks out for an entire pack and do you know how I know this, because I believe we are your largest and strongest allied pack for war assistance, and one should never offend them. Have you ever seen Anthony do that, offend Nick in person?

Oh, if I recall, you did that once yourself, tried to set off a duel between Anthony and Nick once, only to have Anthony round on you himselfhmmdo you recall that, Nick and Jeremy’s response about getting a new pack for themselves. Let me enlighten you about what you, who think you’re a great Luna, but no one else does in that pack. I have many here that come from your pack. I hear much from up there.

If what you’ve organized for this mating ball goes wrong, who do you think Anthony would call for back up

Hmm, that would be us, the ones you’ve just stated you don’t want in your pack? You’re a blind fool, Luna Christy.

I hope Mischa can strike a new deal for Anthony where Nicholas is concerned. Nick is big on respect. Oh, and in case you’re so dumb and unaware of all the ramifications you’ve just set off into motion, we are also allied for pack business,

Our pack is your pack’s legal representative for all your pack’s head office business. I think you’ll find that you, Christy, really are more than lacking in your selfserving need to push Mischa from the seat of Luna and take her job than you think you are.She reached out and clicked the line closed before Christy could say anything at all.

Then she shook her head and looked at Mischa, I can only guess that’s exactly how she treated you in the

entire time she was there.

Hmm, it wasn’t so noticeable at first, just little things that over time became bigger things,Mischa nodded. She speaks to everyone like that when she’s not getting her way.

She stated you were out of the pack, Misch,Paul commented. Which means she knows you’ve left that pack, and haven’t returned as well.

Hmm, it appears that way, though I’m not currently so far from Anthony that he gets that ache in his chest like he did when I was in California or Arizona. She nodded. I haven’t figured out just how far I can get

before he feels that.

Is that something you want to know?Nick asked.

Hmm, if he doesn’t feel the distance between us, I can go unnoticed inside Night Whispers, probably forever. She told him. He barely even knows I’m there inside the pack, get’s like a shock when realizing I’m right there sometimes, barely 10 meters away from him.”

Odd.Lucinda frowned,

Mischa shrugged. I no longer care myself.”

I can answer that for you, or on average anyway,Nick told her It’s about 600 miles for ranked members, give or take depending on the bloodline, of course. It’s why he feels nothing when you’re here. You’re inside that circumference, we’re only like 220 miles by road. As the crow flies it would be a little less, probably 200.

Alpha Declan’s pack?she asked now, wondering if it would be within that circumference as well.

Hmm,” he picked up his phone and used Google Maps to locate her and Declan’s pack. 528 miles by road, he walked over to the state map, and she got up and followed. It’s here.he pointed it out to her on the map and I’m going to say as the crow flies about 450 miles I guess.

So, no, Anthony isn’t going to get that ache in his chest. Most of us can go a state or two over before we feel it. It’s why most of us have allies in the surrounding packs only,Nick told her.

She nodded. That is good news for me. Means I never have to concern myself with him hunting me down at all.She smiled now, and then looked up at him. The university?she asked.

Inside the 600 miles,Nick touched the map once more.

She nodded and looked at Paul and Carol. You’ll be part of the leadership of a new pack. I like that for you. If it’s what you want, of course.
