Declan

He was sitting at his desk answering a few emails when he looked up at the sound of Misha’s old phone ringing, he saw the word Alpha appear on the screen and shook his head. Not many Mates would do that normally they would have their name or shortened version of their name appear on the screen. He’d seen one Alpha’s phone flash ‘my pretty! And he’d seen Lucinda’s. It lit up with the words ‘my big bastard’ when Nick called her, though it also came with a picture of him.

He looked at the time it was late, afternoon had passed and well into the evening now, her heat had been over since half past twelve, and it was now nearly six at night, If she was his Luna, he’d have been calling her between bouts. Hell, everyone would be calling her relentlessly in the hope she would get so annoyed by all the calls she’d pick up, even if it was just to yell and scream at him.

He picked it up and was about to hit the reject button when his own phone rang and ‘Nick RBL appeared on his screen. He’d let Misha’s phone ring out. She’d told him not to answer it. “Evening Nick.”

“Evening Dec, how’s your day going?” Nick asked right back.

“It was interesting, but I can’t complain.” He smiled and leaned back in his seat as Misha’s phone stopped ringing. He had been very relaxed all day long, nothing had bothered him at all, even Wild was calm and happy, they’d seen Misha a few times out and about and his beast had tracked her and his tail had swished a little. He liked the she-wolf, it seemed.

“Mine too. Is Mish there with you by any chance?” Nick asked.

“No, off with Carol and the girls.” He smiled and they were.

“Roped her into being your interim Luna, have we?” there was amusement in Nick’s voice now.

“No, she’s just making friends,” he stated simply.

“Hmm, I heard she was in heat and got mated through it,” Nick commented, and Declan knew he was fishing to see if what he’d heard was true, only those in his unit knew that, and it only took a moment for him to realize it would have been Paul. Giving Nick a heads up about Anthony possibly turning up at his pack after all the pains of betrayal stopped.

“That she did.” He nodded and moved his eyes back to Misha’s phone as it started to ring once more. He reached out and dismissed it only to have it ring right back 20 seconds later.

“Are you busy?” Nick asked, “Or is that by chance Misha’s phone, and it’s ringing like crazy.”

“It is,” he admitted, and then smiled. “Oh let me guess, her Mate turned up to your pack looking for her Declan switched the phone to silent and left it on the desk to ring and log calls but not bother him

“He did. Could you bring Mish in for this conversation? She wanted to know about it.” Nick asked

“Give me a sec, I’ll link the girls,” Declan stated, and connected himself to Kitty, Canol and Serena. Could one of you send Misha to my office, Alpha Nicholas is on the line and wants to speak with her?

Alright, Kitty answered him, and he dropped the link

“Nick, she’ll be here shortly,” Declan told him, and they chatted about how Lucinda and the pups were, until Misha walked into the office.

“She’s here, Nick,” he voiced and hit the speaker button.

“Excellent, Evening Mish, I hear your morning was good.” Nick chuckled softly.

Her eyes moved right to Declan. “It wasn’t me,” he told her.

“Paul, to warn me about Anthony coming looking for you Misha,” Nick voiced.

“Did he?” she asked.

“Yes, and he came with Christy, and made her kneel through her apology, though, as you suspected it was forced from her.”

“By you or him?” she asked as she sat across from Declan and then looked to her phone as it lit up but made no sound, and she could see who was calling her. She ignored it.

“By me, I claimed I was about to bankrupt that pack in full, because two words of ‘I’m sorry’ Didn’t cut it in my books. Told her she’d have nothing by the time they arrived home this evening, that I was going to go in and steal all their business out from under them. She didn’t like it at all, rolled out more words and looked suitably mortified. That was fun for me.” Nick chuckled.

“Kevin?” she asked.

“Said that some of it rang true, that she never intended to ruin the pack in full was the truth. That she actually didn’t believe that I would cancel the alliance oyer an invitation not arriving,” Nick stated.

“She knew, I told her years ago, our deal was actually the very first one I spoke to her about, because it’s important on so many levels. She just blipped over it or forgot about it because she didn’t want to hear anything from me is all.” Misha shook her head. “Never took my advice on board.”

“Nick, are you going to do that?” Declan asked. “Poach all Anthony’s business.”

“No, I would never harm Mish’s pack. She helped build that pack from the ground up. I can’t destroy it i just wanted to see Christy’s reaction was all, but they don’t know that… I called to let you know Anthony also asked to see you, Misha. I am curious as to if Anthony was calling you now, because I told him that you’d left the pack. I didn’t say when or where you went. But I asked if he didn’t know where his Luna was.” “Obviously not,” Misha stated, “and the phone is still ringing. I see Declan has just put it on silent.”

“Do you think he’ll be looking for her now?” Declan asked curiously. That man was going to have a lot on his plate right now, and he was curious himself as to what would be his priority.

“Hmm, I guess he will in time. He, I dare say, is now rushing back to the pack to see if I’ve done as I stated, but before he left, I stood before him and sent that e-mail to all my allies, about no longer being affiliated with that pack.”

“I got that myself about 20 minutes before you called.” Declan nodded.

“Yeah, I came back to the packhouse to call you. Misha, I told my allies I’d still stand by you, but Anthony and Christy were no longer my concern.”

<CH 184

“That is what you said you were going to do.” Misha nodded. She didn’t seem at all surprised by what Nick had done.

“I followed through, he had a deadline to bring Christy to me to apologize, and he didn’t do that. That showed to me that he didn’t want the alliance. Though some interesting news for you, he also told me in person that he’s unseated Christy and that the pup she’s carrying is not the heir. I think he was trying to show me he was loyal to you. It did not sway me. I told him to leave,” Nick stated. “He kind of just closed his eyes with all I had to say about my plans for taking his business. I have a feeling he knew it was coming. He didn’t even arc up, just hauled Christy up and shoved her into his car.

“She was pleading with him about being sorry. She never meant for any of this to happen. He looked filthy mad with her as they left. She looked… hmm… I’m going to say horrified at realizing just what offending other packs actually meant. I taught her a good lesson today, Mish,” Nick chuckled.

“It does seem that way. Thank you,” she stated.

“As for Anthony hunting you right now, I don’t think he will have time to look for you, Misha, not while he’s dealing with the fall out of all my e-mails. Some packs will be looking to sever times with him as well over it. I worded it as they shoved you aside, and you’d been unseated in favor of Christy, but he refuses to issue or accept a rejection.”

“Alright.” She nodded. None of this Declan realized was coming as a shock to Misha, which meant Nick had told her what he was likely to do prior to now. She knew what would happen to that pack, and still opted to leave. Declan understood right now here in his office, she was actually never going back. A part of him thought she would be because there had been no rejection. That was indicative of one returning to their Mate at some point, when they got over being angry.

“It is the truth as I know it, and now I dare say he’ll put you on the back burner, so to speak, to try and save the pack from going under. It won’t be an easy fix, and he’ll have to go in person to some of those packs, if they’re also looking to sever ties with him, to have him explain himself to them, especially the ones you brought in, and those that are mated, will want to know what the hell happened between the two of you.”

“He’ll show them the filigree and say everything is fine and being worked out,” Misha muttered.

“That won’t work not with how I worded things. Some will want to see you in person, some will ask him to call you directly with them right there to see if you’re well. Want you to tell them yourself, everything is good between you and him. You’re not answering his calls anymore, so…” Nick trailed off.

“You’ve got some real influence I see,” Declan murmured.

“I wouldn’t call it influence; I’d call it having the balls to out one Alpha to all the others I know without a care as to the fallout.” Nick commented “Although there is currently another play in the works, Mish, what you don’t know, and I will tell you now, is that many will do what they’ve been asked to do, and not by me but by the Night Whispers Elders themselves.

“They’ve been moving in the background of that pack. To see Anthony come to the full realization that he is unworthy of being an Alpha on his own. That he couldn’t be where he is today without you, they are aiming to sink him themselves. My e-mail was kind of designed in a specific way, at the request of Elder Harvey, to aid them in what they are doing.

“The pack will remain standing, Misha, Christy’s demise and downfall are coming at the hands of the Elders. I believe she’ll either lose her head or be rejected and banished in due course. Once everything lines up for them how they want things to go” Nick laid it all out for her and Declan to hear

<CH 184

Declan looked at Misha as she learned this for herself. She only looked a little surprised to him. “Do they want her to go back after they’ve cleaned house?” he asked.

“They all know she’ll never go back,” Nick answered simply.

“I won’t,” Misha shook her head. “Nick gave me a new life for a reason, because even he knows that I will not go back.”

“When that rejection of Christy comes. You’ll not be safe from the pains of betrayal from him, not if he wants you to return to him,” Declan sighed. That would be the quickest way to see his Mate go back to that pack.

“He’d be a fool to do that, because I would return with either one of you, though he’d be expecting Nick right next to me, knowing I was there to issue that rejection he doesn’t want, and have him forced to accept it. He would know this” she stated simply.
