He didn’t know if he actually believed Nicholas at all, about Mischa not being inside his pack, but he had been standing there, and he’d breathed in more than once trying to pick up her scent, or even a Night Whispers pack scent. But there was nothing for him or Shade to scent out at all.
Hearing Christy admit she wanted to get rid of Nicholas as an allied pack and why, simply because she didn’t like him, he was furious as he drove away from that pack, he’d protected her all this time as his Goddess-Gifted Mate.
Held on to her and saved her more than once only to have her actually turn on the pack. This wasn’t just about her being jealous of Mischa anymore. No, it was more than that, and he wondered right now as he drove away: if that mating ball he’d canceled had indeed been about to be a pack take over all orchestrated by Christy herself.
“Tone, I’m sorry.” She sobbed into the car.
“Why is it you’re so quick to apologize to me but never to anyone else?” He bit out angrily.
“You’re the most important thing to me,” she stated and sat crying in that seat. “I honestly didn’t know it was going to cause so much trouble, I just wanted one mating ball without Nicholas in the pack, he and his Beta are always rude to me.”
“Well, I wonder why!” he snarled. “Just sit there and shut the hell up, and if we get home to find out Nichlas has bankrupted us, it’s completely on your head, and I’ll put it to a pack vote as to what your punishment will be. They can decide and I’ll no longer intervene. It took 20 freaking years to get the pack out of the red and debt free, and you have just dragged it back down and under with one fucking phone call.”
“I’m sorry.” She sobbed even harder.
“Just shut the hell up and don’t speak to me. I don’t want to hear from you the entire trip home.” He snarled at her, and then he hit the talk button on his steering wheel “Call Mischa.” He stated, and he could feel eyes on him a second later, and he turned and looked at her, and she had an almost are you kidding me look on her face.
“Who the hell do you think is the only one to save the pack now? Can you go back there and plead with Nicholas?” he snapped.
She looked away and muttered. “No,”
“That’s right, you’re freaking useless. If you weren’t pregnant I’d have just rejected you and left there by the roadside.”
“What?” she gasped.
“You might want to think long and hard about whether you deserve to be my Mate anymore. That pup is all that’s saving you right now. So best you don’t lose it. I am fully ticked off and if it’s gone so are you.”
She just sat there and sobbed in that seat, and he dialed Mischa over and over again, trying to get her to pick up the phone. If she wasn’t with Nick and not in the pack, then where the hell was she? A dozen calls

and nothing, it just rany out or went to voice math He didn’t leave a message because what could he say That wasn’t going to tick her off.
She’d said he only catted her when he needed her to save the pack, or it was pack-related, and right now that actually was why he was calling, to beg and plead with her to talk Nicholas out of bankrupting the pack in full.
He was heavy on the accelerator, and they got home to the pack an hour earlier than they should have and Christy sobbed or silently dashed away tears the entire way, but she said nothing at all as he’d told her too. He left her to get out of the car by herself. Uncaring of how she felt right that minute, he had bigger problems to deal with.
It was late at night, and he sat at his desk and logged into his e-mail to see if there was fallout. It was a weekday and although it was after hours, those e-mails Nicholas had sent were not going to the human head office e-mails of the surrounding packs. No, they were going direct to the Alpha e-mails of all his allied packs.
Something some would have responded to within minutes or just an hour of, it had been three hours now, and he had no idea how bad it was going to be. He picked up the phone on his desk and dialed Mischa’s number for what felt like the thousandth time and still there was no answer.
He pulled his phone out and logged in the messages between him and her and held the record button down. What he needed to say was too long to type out, and he wouldn’t be able to get how he felt across with simple words. She needed to hear him to know he was sorry for all that had happened.
“Mischa, things have gone very badly. I’m sorry for the trouble Christy has caused to this pack. I have unseated her in front of Alpha Nicholas, and if she wasn’t pregnant I would reject her in full for what she
did.
“I fear she has caused irrecoverable harm to the pack. I am not calling to ask you to fix this, I will set out to fix it myself. Get the pack back on track. I want to let you know I have paid all those invoices to Nicholas, there is no debt there.
“None of this was your fault, and you are right; you do not need to clean up after Christy. That is my job alone, seeing as she can’t do it herself. Please just answer my call and tell me where you are… If you’re okay, I am not angry about your heat and what happened. That is my own fault. I accept that. But where are you? Nicholas stated you’re not there in his pack… implying he doesn’t know where you are. Are you safe where you are?” He let go of the button and hit send, though he didn’t honestly believe Nicholas didn’t know where she was.
The problem now was, he didn’t actually know if she was safe or not, if that message would even reach her. What if she wasn’t safe and someone had taken her… No, he shook his head. If that was the case, held have been suffering all this time. She was amazingly beautiful, and all wolves would want a piece of her.
He closed his eyes and told himself not to think like that, held that button down on his phone once more. I love you, Mischa, I will sort all this out on my own, I promise, and then we’ll talk, really talk and sort everything out. If you want, I’ll reject Christy, if that is what it will take to bring you home to me.” He let go of the button and hit send.
She’d asked him to reject Christy a year ago, and he’d declined. Now he wished he had done so, none of this would be happening, they’d be fine and together and the pack would be safe and still in good standing with Alpha Nicholas.

His eyes caught moverment in his office and there was Christy just kneeling on the floor, just staring at him. He understood she’d just heard his words, “You sealed your own fate. It’s now in Mischa’s hands in full, you aimed to screw her over at every turn, so now if she wants you gone, gone you will be.”
He saw those tears stream down her face as her hand landed on her slightly distended abdomen, as she looked at him. “It’s twins, and you’re going to toss me aside the moment birth them.”
“Twins?” he raised an eyebrow. He didn’tknow if he believed that at all. Could be some trick to gain more sympathy from him.
“Sunny just picked up two heart beats. You can check yourself,” she stated, but didn’t get up from the floor.
He did get up and walk over there, brushed her hand from her own stomach and placed his hand inside her clothing to touch her bare skin. He would not trust her in this moment. He heard her sob, “You think! lied.” And his eyes met hers even as he and Shade put their wolfen sense to her, and yes, there were two heart beats.
He removed his hand from her and stated, “Why wouldn’t I, after all you’ve done? I can’t take anything you say at face value anymore. You are my Mate, but seeing as you can’t do anything that isn’t self-serving, you are not the Luna to this Pack. I will never let you rank up that of Luna, for what you did; severing ties with the Rising Blue Lotus. Your desk is gone, your pack Luna card is already gone. But now your nice car is now gone, you have nothing now.
“I will sell everything you own that is of value, to recuperate the losses you have caused this pack, all of your jewelry, including your Luna’s Jewelry, your bags, shoes and gowns, whatever you have, because you now owe this pack a debt larger than you can pay. You’ll keep basic items of necessity. I will be returning all the nursery items as well, bar the crib and baby clothes. You can keep those, everything else goes back.
“Wh… What but… the babies will need those things.” She stammered.
“A baby needs a place to sleep, milk to be fed, clothes to be warm and water to be bathed. Nothing more is required for a newborn. If you want more things for them as they grow up, then go out and get a job and earn money and buy it for yourself.” He stood up. “I will provide them with the basic things they need, as their father, that is my duty.
“But nothing more will they receive, unless Mischa approves of it herself. You can now go to Mischa for everything you need or want. I suggest you learn to accept your place inside this pack, which you have created for yourself and have no one to blame for. No more will I protect you; you’re on your own, so to speak.”
He stood up and walked back to his desk. “I suggest you turn over a new leaf if you want to remain here and have me acknowledge those twins you are carrying. Or you can choose to reject me and leave and go raise those twins in another pack if you are unhappy with how I’m dealing with you, and what you have done to ruin this pack, ruin my relationship with Mischa
“Know that if you leave, I will sever my ties to them after they are born. They are due late February, so the first Sunday of March is when I will sever ties with them if you leave. So that you can’t raise them to say they have a claim on this pack, there will be no claim to this pack from any children you birth, even if they are actually mine.
“Your blood runs through their veins, and you don’t know how to repent or know when you are in the wrong, have traitors’ blood, which means so do they. I will not have heirs to the pack raised by you, to be vicious,

conniving or deceitful like you. The choice is yours,” he stated as he sat at his desk. “Leave my office. I have to try and save the pack and do not have time for you and your tears.”
