He realized in this moment that he didn’t know who she was at all, everything he’d seen in the past three years was a lie. Three years they’d been mated, and she cared nothing for his pain at losing his first Mate. Only cared about herself, he now understood.
She didn’t even care about the two unborn pups she was carrying, they were just tools for her, he realized as he stood looking at her, tools to try and solidify her place here, before Mischa and nothing more. He wondered if she even wanted them at all?
“Go ahead. That is your decision, but you kill them, and it will be a crime, one of killing the Alpha’s children. That is a death sentence,” he stated and turned and walked from the cells. He would not bow down to her
threat.
He walked away from the cells and could hear Christy yelling and screaming in there, that she was his only Luna now, that Mischa was never coming back. She was all he had, and he couldn’t do this to her. Yell for all the guards to hear that Mischa was pregnant with another Alpha’s pup.
He closed his eyes and walked away. If she was going to gut herself, she would have done it by now, it was just a veiled threat to invoke some kind of sympathy from him, or maybe fear of losing his pups. She was not the she–wolf he thought she was all this time.
He returned to the packhouse as he thought about what Mischa had said during that phone call. He’d missed more than just a few little things, it seemed, he didn’t go to his office or even to the Luna’s office. He headed upstairs right for her suite because he had not been allowed in there, not even once since
she’d moved into it.
Mischa had lost all faith in him when he’d abandoned her to suffer her heat alone, it had been the turning point for her and he knew it. She’d also stated Christy had self–induced her heat, which meant she had proof of it. She would never voice that unless she had the proof. Though she’d never presented it, why not was the question? Then he recalled it had been brought up in that investigation and what had he done… accused Mischa of accusing Christy of doing that to herself.
The evidence had been right there, and he’d blipped over it, in favor of something that was a one in a million chance of happening. He’d defended Christy when the blatant obvious had been laid out before him. The moment he’d done that, was the moment she’d opted not to present it in full, because she knew he’d never believe her.
No matter how much evidence she had, he’d taken Christy’s side in the blink of an eye and snapped at her, showing her who he would defend and who he would not. He’d accused her of a crime because of Christy’s words, then had defended Christy when the truth was out for all to hear, and all because he’d not wanted to believe Christy was capable of such things.
He stood now before Mischa’s suite door and took a breath in as he feared he’d try to open the door, and it would just open, because she had left him and it would have been cleaned out by Anne, and the code reset to four zeros as it always was, and he’d not known for a solid month.
placed his hand on the door handle and tried it. It wouldn’t open, was locked, so he punched in the
for when it was empty, and it flashed red to indicate no access, it was the wrong code. So he was yright whatever it was he was looking for was going to be in this room.

He punched in half a dozen different codes; her birthday, his birthday, their mate bond anniversary. The day they took over the pack, the date she’d left this pack, none of them opened the door. He had no idea
what she’d coded this room door as, and he understood that was because she didn’t use anything he might be able to guess.
Because she didn’t want him in this room, no… it wasn’t that per se, it was she didn’t want him bringing Christy into this room, like he had done to the Alpha Suite and then the room she’d moved into when leaving the Alpha Suite as well. She had no faith in him at all, she believed Christy would be able to get him to let her go in there and look around.
Probably entice him into sex in there as well. Just like she had done the Alpha Suite, he was never going to guess it and he knew it. He mind–linked to Anne ‘Come and open Mischa’s suite door.‘ He told her.
‘I’m sorry Alpha, Luna Mischa instructed me to never give you the code. Anne answered him simply enough.
He shook his head, despite the fact that he knew Anne understood Mischa had left, and not because the whole damned pack did, bar him; but because she was Mischa’s personal omega. So, of course, she would know, she would not only feel Mischa wasn’t in the pack but see the room was empty and didn’t need cleaning.
‘Open the door or suffer pack punishment.’ He bit out as he realized this pack was still loyal to Mischa even though she’d actually left it.
‘On my way. She murmured, sounding unhappy to him, and he cut the link, threats of punishment always made pack members move their backsides.
He thought about the pack still being loyal to Mischa, and he knew it was because although she had left him, she was still bound to him. So, they could all still play we’re only following Luna Mischa’s order; to get out of being formally punished.
His own Beta and Delta, he now understood, also knew she’d left him, and they’d not told him about it either; he thought about that, with what Anne had just stated. He’d thought they’d walked from his office with him calling her, because they believed he didn’t care about Mischa, when it wasn’t that at all.
When she’d told the pack goodbye, she’d likely stated, ‘don’t tell him I’ve left. And the entire pack had followed her request.
With all that had gone on, he wouldn’t put it past her right now to do that, just to see how long it took him to realize she wasn’t here, how long she’d been gone. A freaking month and if she’d not severed from the pack today, hadn’t let that Alpha initiate her, he’d likely still be in the dark in full.
Because he was busy trying to save the pack, he had decided to do that before calling her. He didn’t want her to continue thinking, he only called her to help him save the pack. Wanted to prove to her, he could do it without her, because it was her belief that he now only kept her around for that very thing.
It wasn’t just his unit, he realized as he stood there waiting for Anne to arrive, because she wasn’t willing to give him the code even now. But the Elders all knew Mischa had left him as well. Harvey had come and had stern words with him about not blaming Mischa for betraying their mate bond.
He wondered now if that was to stop him from going out there and trying to hunt her down in person. To give her time to get to wherever it was she was going. They’d allowed his own Mate and Luna to leave him, supported her leaving him, and didn’t tell him she had when she left. No one was on his side. He was

the Alpha of this pack and every single pack member kept him in the dark.

Everyone inside this pack, his pack, were all on Mischa’s side of everything that happened. Not one soul who’d accepted him as their Alpha and pledged loyalty to the pack had come to him and told him his own Mate and Luna had left the pack with no desire to ever return.
They’d all turned against him, and right now, standing here before Mischa’s locked door, he even knew why. They all saw Christy as a traitor, and he’d supported her, reduced her punishment and not protected Mischa from her. He was a traitor to his own Luna and that was how the pack saw him.
They didn’t help him because they didn’t feel he deserved it. He was, in their eyes, no better than Christy was. They’d all heard what he’d done, accused Mischa of a crime that didn’t even happen and still kept the traitorous she–wolf that started it all, not only here in the pack, but alive and on his arm, in his bed.
Regret was filling every part of him as he stood there, realizing just how badly he’d betrayed her, betrayed not just Mischa, but everyone in this pack as well. She was a good Luna, kind, gentle and loving, everyone loved her, and yet he’d turned away from her. Even when he knew how the pack saw Christy, he still had that she–wolf by his side. That was why they said nothing. He wasn’t worthy of their loyalty, but Mischa still had it in full, they loved her and didn’t even respect him.
Anne appeared in the hallway, coming out of the Omega stairs and walked over to Mischa’s door, and she looked up at him almost pointedly, and he muttered. “I know she’s not in the pack anymore, Anne. Just open it.”
She nodded after a moment and then punched in a code; he saw it, 4816 and tried to figure out what it meant, but he couldn’t place the numbers. They didn’t mean anything to him at all. He couldn’t even make a four–letter word out of them.
He watched Anne turn to leave after pushing the door open. She didn’t say a single thing to him at all, and he let her leave. She was Mischa’s omega, her loyalty was to the Luna. He’d wronged for Goddess only knows how long; at least a year… No, it was more than that, she’d moved out of the Alpha suite before then.
10 months before that, they argued and fought during that first day of her heat, where he’d been in that room she’d moved into after being ordered by him to leave the Alpha Suite, she’d told him, and he dicht even know if that was the truth of what had happened that very day, but that told him that for almost two years they’d been at odds, not that he’d cared to see it or acknowledge it.
He stood there in the corridor looking at the entryway hall to the suite and wondered if he wanted to go inside it at all. He had no idea if the place was completely empty. He breathed in but couldn’t smell anything of her at all.
He stood there, unable to it seemed to step into the suite at all. His heart rate was elevated, and he felt beads of sweat appear on his brow: what if there was nothing in this room? Nothing left of her at all. How was he going to feel about that? It would be a clear statement that she’d walked away and was never coming back, just like she said.
But on the other hand, what if she’d taken nothing with her at all? What if she’d just walked away and left everything of their two–decade–long mate bond behind? That would show him she didn’t care to want to even recall any of it. Not even the happy moments from when they’d first come together and been deliriously happy and all loved up.
Could he bare to know that she did not want one single thing from him? Not even a single token of what
