The Eclipsed Life of Luna Mischa (by Jennifer Francis) novel Chapter 195

Anthony

He pulled himself together after a full minute of just standing out there in the corridor looking into her suite. He’d wanted her to let him in here for a year now and when the moment finally came, he found himself hesitating.

He couldn’t do anything about all that had transpired here inside this pack if he didn’t actually know what it all was, so he had to Alpha up and go in there. He took a slow breath in and released it, as dread started to fill him, but then forced himself to walk into the suite and closed the door behind him.

He didn’t need anyone out there to hear him if he lost it inside this suite. He walked down the short hallway and into the open living area and allowed his eyes to move over the room. He knew it was just a oneroom suite, but it was large and impressive. Had not only a living area, but a full study and a home theater as well.

It was designed for the Alpha Council members to be here, and not just for a short stay but a long stay in case a full investigation had to happen here inside the pack; by them. Every pack was expected to have at least one suite dedicated to visiting council members, a show of respect and acceptance of them coming to the pack.

As his eyes moved over the plush furnishings of the suite, he could see the doors to the rooms that led off this one were all open, but he focused on the living room itself, he saw that there were no photos in this room on the mantle, where he knew they should have been placed, where they had been in his suite.

A place allocated for them by Mischa herself, there should have been one of him and her, one from the very day they’d scented out each other. A photo captured by Paul of the two of them, after they’d stated the word mine, he had a stupidly happy grin on his face, and she’d had a shy kind of smile.

It was the moment of moments to be captured and embodied their mate bond. It had always sat on the mantle in the Alpha Suite, but he knew it wasn’t in there now, he’d just presumed she’d taken it with her, but it wasn’t there where it should be right now. If it wasn’t in his suite in pride of place and not here in her suite in pride of place on that mantle, then where was it?

The only thing on that mantle was a shallow decorative bowl, one that she’d bought long ago, and was he knew where her keys were always placed. He felt relief started to ebb into him.

She’d left him something to remind him of her, but as he walked about, he realized something else as he walked into her bedroom. What he was seeing was all her things. There in her walkin were not only all her clothes but her suitcases as well. She’d not packed to leave, and he recalled her telling him she’d left at hearing him tell Christy her pups wouldn’t be the heirs to the pack.

She’d left in a matter of seconds, and she’d taken nothing with her at all, just turned around and left the moment she thought Christy was going to target her. He’d been the one to make her leave. His own words she believed would set Christy’s sights right on her. He now wondered if that would have happened. She’d told him to check the cameras and see just what Christy did after that conversation. She probably already knew, had Christy gone off and hunted for Mischa to harm her? He didn’t know, would have to look into that later.

There on a chair by the far wall opposite her bed was her handbag. He walked over and picked it up, found her wallet was in there.

He kind of halt fell down into that chair as he looked about once more, with a view of what she’d told him about Christy. She’d not left him, she’d fled from this pack in her words to save her own life. She truly did believe that Christy was going to kill her and that he’d allow it, is what this all said to him.

She’d fled and only taken what was on her, probably only her phone and nothing else. She’d not stopped to come and collect a single thing from their life together. She hadn’t cared to take anything with her at all, none of it mattered to her, she’d been gone for a month, and he knew she could have had Anne pack things up and send them to her if she wanted them.

He’d not have even known she’d done it, but that had not happened at alt. Mischa didn’t want anything of their twodecadelong mate bond. Nothing to remind her of it at all, his eyes moved about the room, even her phone charger sat there next to the bed. She took nothing, left with nothing to her name,he murmured to himself as pain radiated through his chest at the realization she truly believed he only cared about Christy and that he’d never protect her.

He didn’t know how long he sat there in that room just trying to come to terms with the fact that she was really gone, and that she was never coming back, as he held on to her handbag and just stared at the bed she’d slept in, never once had they even slept in that bed over there together.

She’d lived here all alone for a year. Mates weren’t designed to live apart, to be separated from each other, and yet a year she’d slept in here by herself, alone and likely in pain and where had he been? in a bed with Christy is where, curled up with his other Mate while Mischa lived alone; feeling unloved and unwanted.

This was why she could leave him have no contact at all with him. She had learned to live without him. No, not learned, she had been forced to live without him. She’d told him he had always gotten up and left, went to sleep in Christy’s bed and he’d brushed it off. Told her Christy didn’t like sleeping alone, yet he’d made Mischa do that every day for a year, no it was longer than that. Other than that one day and night of her heat a year ago, he couldn’t actually recall sleeping in a bed with her at all.

When had he stopped doing that, and only started sleeping with Christy? He didn’t even know the answer to that question. But he was certain Mischa knew the answer to it. There had to be something here that told him when everything started to fall apart, she’d stated she’d documented everything.

He pushed up from the chair and searched the room, searched the living area and dining room, walked into the study and looked at the desk. Three Luna Diaries sat neatly stacked on her desk like they always did in her Luna’s office. He opened all the draws of the desk and checked for a letter, a USB or anything, but there was nothing.

He didn’t understand her words about documenting everything. Why tell him that if there was nothing actually documented? Did she say it just to make him hunt and come up emptyhanded? Was she just trying to make him look even more like an ass? Because he couldn’t find what she’d left behind. Which showed he didn’t know her at all anymore.

No, he knew she’d stated that very thing to him on purpose, to make him go and hunt, to find it. Yet there was nothing at all for him to find as far as he could see. He sat in her chair and closed his eyes, he didn’t understand her right now, and he wondered if that was the very point she was trying to make, to prove he no longer knew her. That he had forgotten everything about her.

He opened his eyes, and they landed on the three Luna Diaries on the desk, and he wondered why there were three of them in here? Mischa did have a new one for each new year that came and went. But she always put the old ones in the library archives, so they didn’t clutter the Luna’s office.

There was only ever one on her Luña desk, even if it had been a busy year, and she’d had to start a new une, the previous one was filed away. He thought about that, her Luna’s diary, and something itched at his brain. It only took a moment for him to recall that he’d placed her Luna’s Diary on her desk himself.

When he’d put her desk back in her office after Christy’s fuckup. He sighed heavily now as he sat here and realized he’d done all of that for nothing; she’d already left him by then, and she didn’t even know her desk was back in there. It had all been for naught.

He reached over and pulled those diaries towards him. It was odd for her to just leave them there. She wasn’tthat kind of person. He picked the top one up and saw this year’s date on it. Checked the other two and saw they were for the two previous years. That made him frown even further; she never kept old diaries on hand.

He opened the one in his hand out of curiosity and there, on the first page was written in her neat handwriting, 3rd diary of accounts for the mate bond between myself, Anthony and Christy.’

His heart stuttered in his chest, as he realized what this was, she’d said she’d documented everything and now he understood she had. His eyes moved back to the other two diaries on the desk, and he reached out and opened the cover of the next one on the stack.

2nd Diary of accounts for the mate bond between myself, Anthony and Christy. Then the one on the bottom he opened to see the words written in her hand, Diary of the mate bond between myself, Anthony and his new second Mate, Christy. (that he got on the last full moon)

This was it, he realized. He’d seen her sitting and documenting all the time, had seen her close the diary when he walked into her room to talk to her and just keep it on her lap, he’d never once thought anything of it, or asked to read what she was documenting either. But now that he thought about it, she’d never taken the Luna’s diary to their suite, always kept it in the Luna’s office.

She’d never even hidden the fact that she was documenting it all from him, he’d simply blipped over it all because he’d seen her do it a million times before. It wasn’t out of the ordinary to see her writing in a diary.
