CH 200
Anthony
He closed that diary after reading the last entry and pushed it across the desk to the first one. The last words she’d documented in it were Christy has won; he even knew why those words because he never really went to her bed at all anymore.
It was barely once a month and for maybe an hour, before Christy called him away. Sometimes she’d call him away before he and Mischa spent any time together, and she said nothing when he told her Christy needed him, just nodded without so much as a word, because she expected it.
Anthony felt tears roll down his own face at times as he read what she documented, all the pain and heartache he’d caused her, and not seen or cared to feel from her. She still loved him but knew she’d lost him, knew that two decades of their mate bond couldn’t hold up to Christy and her schemes to tear them apart.
He opened the third diary. This one he knew was going to be even worse than the previous one. There was no way it could be less painful for Mischa, not when he knew all that had happened over the past year.
His hand covered his mouth as he read the neatly written words on the page now before him, as Mischa wrote that he’d just left her bed once again, not even an hour he’d spent with her, and she thought he was just going through the motions, didn’t know why he bothered to at all anymore.
That she’d lain in her bed and cried after he’d left her, the pain nearly unbearable, a fist balled against her chest pressed to the aching of her heart, stayed there until the tears stopped, before getting up and stepping outside in the cold night, where she wished the oncoming chill of winter would freeze her heart completely, and she’d have the strength to leave, to reject the other half of her soul and go through the pains of rejection.
Her words to the moon goddess herself were written there for him to see, “When it happens, Selena, don’t make me a Luna again, I don’t want the responsibility of holding a pack together at the cost of my own heart or wolf’s heart.”
Then she’d made a vow, not to fail this very pack, if Selena would release her from their mate bond. That she would stay here and be the pack’s perfect Luna until the day came that she was truly not needed.
She didn’t know when that would be, but she knew she would know because when the day came, she’d simply no longer care at all, there would be no sadness, no pain, no anger or resentment; just nothing.
She’d made the decision to leave him, he realized, long before she’d actually left him, he just didn’t know it, or care to see it. He’d certainly never believed she would leave him. They were Goddess-Gifted of over 20 years. What Goddess-Gifted Mates of that long rejected each other? None that he heard of.
He was so very wrong in his belief that she’d be fine, that she could get over her affliction and they’d come back together. That time would heal her and fix everything, that one day she’d smile at him, and they’d just go back to being how they were. Her heart was already broken; their bond was already in tatters even before he’d known it, before he’d abandoned her in full.
His eyes moved to the date at the top of the entry, to see when it was written, and he stared at it through tear-filled eyes, it was he knew the day before her heat had come last November; The very heat he’d abandoned her too.

What he’d thought started all of this, and what he believed saw her wanting to leave him, but now understood it wasn’t that at all, that her leaving him wasn’t about him abandoning her heat and causing her affliction at all. No, that was just something he’d caused due to his lack of love and care, loyalty to their mate bond and nothing more.
She’d already made the decision that it was over, it was just a matter of time, of when she would walk away from him, and all he’d done since then was to push her further and further away by still taking Christy’s side in everything.
He’d proved, beyond a doubt, he loved Christy and not her. It was all here in her diaries that he didn’t love her at all.
He turned the page to read the next entry. It was after he’d left her in her heat in her suite, to go to Christy promising her he’d come back when her bout came, and his fist balled on the desk, because he knew he never went back, he didn’t need to read it, knew what he’d done, let Christy sway him into staying with her and abandoning Mischa in full.
But he made himself read it, he wanted to know, needed to know it all, how she felt he needed to know when was the moment she felt absolutely nothing, something he felt now, happened before she actually
left him.
He read her suspicions about Christy’s sudden bout of heat, of her researching it that first day he’d left her, when she was still able to be clear-headed and not in any pain. Of the pain itself and how she’d ripped into herself, how it got worse and worse, until she couldn’t even stomach water, and was just a ball of utter agony curled up on the floor of her suite the drugs given to her no longer effective.
She documented the entire events of the investigation, and then what he saw was less and less green in this book, as her feelings about things dwindled away, and he got to see it, as she started to stop caring at all, started to just shrug it off.
Because he’d promised her things would be different when he’d gotten off that shaming post, and she had actually wanted to believe him, had chosen to give him one more chance to prove he’d changed, offered him redemption, only to see him fall by the wayside and start to turn towards Christy once more.
He scrubbed a hand over his face as he saw it, how Christy had managed to get him to let her back into the Alpha Suite once more. Mischa’s own thoughts on it; that Christy had left her suite on purpose just to have him pull her into the Alpha Suite, something he’d done without much thought, but now he too saw as a calculated move by Christy.
He even recalled Mischa telling him something like that, and he’d blipped over her saying he didn’t have to, that he could have just walked her back across the hall to the Luna Suite, which of course he could have done, but hadn’t. That he wanted her in there, and he had no defense for it because he’d kept her in there even after the heat, so he did actually want her in there with him.
Right now, he even knew why, stopped lying to himself and admitted that he’d not liked sleeping alone. Even though he’d made Mischa do it for months on end, he wouldn’t do that willingly to himself. So he’d kept Christy in there, he slept better when not alone, as did all mated wolves in healthy happy mate bonds.
He read it all as he reverted back to his old ways and why? He knew the answer to that himself, because he didn’t like that she wouldn’t give in to him and let him have his way. Mischa had refused to bow down to him, stood her ground, to protect herself and Laud from him, because she didn’t believe a word he said, and she, was he knew, right to do so.

He’d bruken promise after promise, and it had only taken all of a few weeks after Christy was released for it to The Elders Lunas had all gone to her and spoke with her, they knew what was going on, saw he’d
abandoned her and broken his promises to her yet again and her only words were, “I know.”
She told them she wanted to handle everything, that they were not to interfere in anything Christy did, that they were not to round on him and force him to see what was going on. If he couldn’t see it, that was his problem. That she had her own plans to deal with Christy that she was going to enact and what it was; that was an eye-opener for him.
He could hardly believe what he r******w, that she was going to continue to let Christy self-induce her heats to cross over her own to see if she could get her to do it multiple times. Because not only were they aggressive and would cause him to harm her by over mating her, but every time she did that to herself post the first time, her body would react to it, and she’d end up with heats blooming naturally to coincide with when she’d induced those heats.
He sat and thought about May and August, so that meant from now on Christy would have three heats a year, her naturally occurring heat in February, then one just 10 weeks later in May and one just 12 weeks after that in August. Three heats in four and half months.
His brain ticked if she’d not gotten pregnant in October, Mischa’s heat in November, Christy would have self induce her own to pull him away from Mischa once more.
That would have been four heats in a year, inside nine months to be precise. He understood why Mischa stayed even when she felt nothing for him, to punish Christy and nothing more. Seeing as he was so very blind to it all.
He almost couldn’t believe it, that Mischa was this vicious; to do that to another. Though at the same time, he now understood why she did it, Christy had torn them apart, and she was self-inducing her own heat. Mischa actually didn’t do anything to Christy, it was all Christy doing it to herself, and just to eclipse Mischa’s and see her suffer them alone, the punishment was as simple as staying here and watching Christy stupidly harm herself.
Then he read that she’d spoken to the moon goddess herself one night when out on her balcony, that Selena had actually appeared here inside this pack, and given Mischa a riddle to figure out a way to stop her heats. That completely shocked him, and he didn’t even know one could do that. It seemed he knew absolutely nothing about Mischa at all anymore.
He read on, there was less and less pain and suffering in her words as she lost interest and became what he thought was immune to anything he or Christy did, just shrugged it off until she wasn’t just indifferent, but didn’t care, was solely curious as to just how far Christy would go. He was a lost cause as far as she was concerned.
Then he read something that shocked him completely, ‘Christy did not accidently fall into the canyon.’ He frowned at those words, and then read it all, that yet again Christy didn’t want Paul to go near her while she was in the canyon; Mischa and Paul’s conversation about why Christy wouldn’t want that, so he couldn’t pick up on she’d done it on purpose, just like when she’d come out of that self-induced heat, she’d not wanted him there told him Anthony could comfort her.
