Christy, he could now see, had injured herself on purpose and just to stop him from going to that Gala where he and Mischa would be seen together, even as a divorced couple that got along. Christy had found a way to stop any chance of them being seen or photographed in the human world together. She’d removed Mischa from his human world profile long ago but still went out of her way to do this, when there was no need to.

She’d achieved it easily, because as her Mate, she’d known that he would be too worried about her injuries, and that surgery recovery to even think about where she’d been lying in that canyon. But again, Mischa had seen through it all, and he’d not only blipped over it, but when Mischa had gone to the hospital to ask after Christy, he’d yelled at her, and deep down inside he knew why.

Christy could have just died out there, inside his pack. She had always portrayed herself as afraid of Mischa, that Mischa would find a way to harm her or kill her. He even recalled not long before this event that Christy told him Mischa was very clever in going about the way she did things. So there would be no evidence of her ever harming Christy; that it would look like an accident and get past him.

That was what he’d been thinking that very day: Had Mischa done that to Christy because she hated her? He knew she did by then.

She’d told him to reject Christy, she had lashed Christy herself, and she had her locked up for nine weeks. She’d gone out of her way to get Christy to extend her own punishment as well in his anguished state over Christy being injured, he’d turned on Mischa inside his own mind.

Even Shade had had doubts about everything that had happened that day and they’d both looked at her standing in the hospital just outside the Luna Suite and actually thought Mischa and Laud had found a way to harm Christy, and that was why she was there in the hospital, to see Christy’s injuries from their own handiwork, and be relish in the moment.

He really was useless at seeing how much Christy did to stop them from being together in any way, shape or form and could turn it all on Mischa. Christy had sowed seeds of doubt that very first day upon scenting her, and each and every following day he now realized that she’d found tiny ways to increase the, doubt, so in the back of his mind it wasn’t just something he thought about when she implied Mischa had done something to her, he believed Mischa had done something to Christy.

Christy had managed to get him to believe it, when there was no way Mischa could have harmed her either time. Because both times, he knew exactly where Mischa was, either with him or where he could see her, yet he was convinced it was Mischa’s doing.

Reading the canyon fall event from Mischa’s point of view, he could see it clearly, and he even recalled Christy was unhappy about not going to the event and had tried to get him to take her more than once before the conversation in his office. That Mischa had willingly offered to give her place to Christy, and he’d been the one to tell Christy no when she’d been made about not going. Yet there he’d been in the hospital thinking it was Mischa that did something to Christy.

He’d thought Christy had turned over a new leaf after being punished and spending all that time in the cells, but she hadn’t, not even for a single blip of a second. But no more could he ball back on that it was just Christy’s fault. She may have laid the groundwork over the years, and ingrained into him that some day

down the track Mischa was going to find a way to get rid of her, and there would be no evidence to prove it was Mischa

He’d been the one to choose to believe Christy, and he knew that he was actively looking for it every time Christy got hurt. Seeing this one instance where his own silence to Mischa belied he didn’t trust her, showed him just how much he didn’t trust Mischa around Christy, when in reality it should have been the other way around.

Mischa had already proved in his eyes, that she could, in fact, hold an investigation and clear her own name, which made him and likely Christy as well, know to not actively state anything that could see her do it again. She was looking for it to bring about their downfall. He’d wondered in that hospital if Mischa wanted to set Christy up.

He’d wondered if she was actively trying to get him to state something that would bring about a new investigation from his own words. Knew deep down inside she was expecting him to do it, just waiting on it, knowing if he implied it was her doing, that he nor Christy would survive a second investigation if it was proven Mischa had nothing to do with it.

The Elders would simply deem him or Christy a traitor twice over and either banish them or kill them, which would solve Mischa’s problem of him being her Mate or him having a second Mate, as Christy feared she would find a way to do. This was what had stopped him from stating what he thought that very day, when he’d seen Mischa in the hospital.

He couldn’t risk it, because it was only his thoughts on the matter. He’d not had any proof to back it up, but he’d wanted to blame her for it, held his tongue and resented her as well at that moment, for having him over a barrel, because it would be him versus her, and she’d, he thought even then, win it and ruin him. But even with that thought, which proved she’d done absolutely nothing to Christy, he’d still be angry at her.

Christy had been out there in the woods that day, she’d stated it herself, but who the hell fell into that canyon in broad daylight? So it had been suspicious, but he’d not once considered it was suspicious on Christy’s part. No, he’d turned all that suspicion on Mischa.

He couldn’t believe all Christy had done to Mischa over the years and why just to be the only Luna.

He understood now, that’s why her words rang true to him the day they’d scented each other out, even the fear he’d picked up on that day, that was her own fear that he might not believe her, or maybe fear that she’d not be able to pull it off, and get caught and killed for being a traitor.

She’d actually allowed him to sense it and smell it, because it would work in her favor in the long run. But it was all he now knew, just part of her plotting and planning. He didn’t think it was she-wolf jealousy anymore. No, it was just as Mischa stated Christy’s narcissistic need to be the only Luna and nothing

more.

How the hell hadn’t he seen it when everyone else around him had seen it? Alpha Nicholas, had offered Mischa many times over the three years to have her go live with him, and why? Because he’d seen through Christy in a millisecond. Which meant that everything he’d heard over the years was in fact a genuine off from Nicholas to Mischa.

She’d brushed it off and told him he was being stupid, all his jealousy and worry over what he heard going between them was ridiculous, and in the end he too had, because Nicholas was mated and happily so. When now he knew he shouldn’t have, he now understood her brushing it off was to keep her leaving him, something he’d not considered would ever happen, because she already knew she was going to leave him

She’d made the decision months ago, which probably meant that Nicholas knew this very thing himself as well.

He could hardly believe all that he was coming to realize. He had completely failed in protecting his first Mate and Luna, stopped caring about her and loving her, it was all here in these diaries for him to read and see that he didn’t. He was just clinging to the Mate Bond and nothing more. She knew that and so did the Elders and right now as he sat there and read these diaries, he understood it to be true. No matter how much he professed to love Mischa, and they’d come back together, he always left her on her own.
