Anthony

He leaned back in that chair as he realized something else. She’d not asked Nicholas for help until after Selena had appeared inside this very pack and spoken to Mischa and Laud, after she’d asked for help with stopping her heat. They saw it as Selena didn’t see he was worthy of them and this was the proof; Selena had helped her to do all of this.

She had given Mischa options and then allowed her to choose what to do in her own life. She and Laud could put all they’d done down to being the will of their Goddess, and he couldn’t even refute it.

He was thinking about that now, how and when she’d had time to get the answer to that riddle; there was only one time she could possibly have done anything without him knowing, after she’d gone to Obsidian Pack, she had just vanished for many days. Something happened but there in California to change things out there for her. It was also the time he’d felt the pain of their bond severing for the first time, couldn’t handle it and knew something was very wrong, and now he realized that was because Selena herself approved of Mischa’s doings.

It was her will to make him feel it, what it was going to be like without her, because she wasn’t severed from him, was still bonded to him, and if she never came back, that was his punishment forever to always feel a piece of his soul was just gone from him to know he’d never have it back, that he was the reason she had vanished in the first place.

He looked at her documentation of that now, her time, away from this pack, and it was odd, and it did not match the rest of the diary at all. Everything in Obsidian seemed okay and there were recorded conversations between her and Dana, with Dana understanding in less than a few minutes that Christy had self-induced her own heat, the warning of her doing it again. Of her discussions about stopping her heat and better pain relief for when he abandoned her again, the signing up for the study as well.

But then she just vanished and Brent came home by himself. There was nothing about where she went, she’d gone somewhere, but not documented where she’d gone, or what she was doing. Even here, in these diaries left behind for him to read, she had left it out, and why? Because she didn’t want him to know where she’d been or what she’d done. That was between herself and those that helped her and Selena,

their Goddess,

But what he understood from it was that she’d been very different when she’d come home, her whole attitude had kind of changed and then her heat had been only one bout as well. He flipped back to the entry where she’d seen and spoken to Selena about finding a way to stop her heat, and read what she’d written as Selena’s riddle once more.

Then came back to this page he was on now. Selena had not only heard Mischa offer herself up to be her guinea pig, but understood her plight and had given her things to aid her in what it was she wanted. Those missing days she’d found the place to go to in order to find a way to reduce her heat, or get rid of it. She was protecting herself from him, because her thoughts were and had never changed from that, he’d abandon her heat in favor of Christy, who she knew was going to induce a heat to coincide with her own.

He and Christy were her enemies within. That is what he was coming to understand right now as he read this diary and thought back to it all. Selena, of course, could see that Mischa was loyal and devoted to this pack, had been loyal and devoted to him, even though he hadn’t been loyal to her, and that was what had seen their own Goddess come here to this very pack in person, and offer Mischa a way to get what it was

she wanted.

The only words documented over those days she’d been off-the-grid were that she felt happy, she’d met some new friends and was enjoying her break away from Night Whispers.

Then, as he turned the page, the words ‘the Alpha Council approved of Selena’s will. They will enact her will, and save others like myself. Who suffer being abandoned to their heat by their uncaring Mates, were written there, and he understood she’d come home with a way to diminish her own heat down to one bout; she’d achieved it and the Wolfen Council knew about it.

A shiver ran through him as he realized she’d been in contact with the Wolfen Council, and it was entirely likely they all now knew what was going on here within this pack. Had she told them everything? Why hadn’t they come here if she did? Or was it because, yet again, she’d stated she was handling it.

Told them things could be managed in-house? It was likely she’d put to them just what she had the Elders here. That they didn’t need to get involved, that she, as the Luna to the pack, was handling it her way, and she could well have told them exactly what she was going to do, and so they left her to it; which, he knew they would, if they believed she could in fact handle it.

That was seven months ago now, back in the middle of April, which meant they believed she could handle it, and punish those that needed it or… Leave without him knowing, as she had done. She had no fear of him touching another. Not when he had Christy, she’d told him that when she’d gotten home, she’d never feel the pains of betrayal so she could leave if she wanted to.

That should have sent alarm bells ringing through him because she stated exactly what she’d planned to do, only he’d not believed it, never thought for a second she’d leave him, her Goddess-Gifted Mate. He was so very blind, so arrogant to think her world revolved around him, and just because she was bonded to him, that she’d never leave him, regardless of how it was for her here inside this pack.

He closed his eyes and scrubbed a hand over his face. She’d gone from being in pain, to being indifferent, to finding ways of protecting herself, to then planning the reinventing of herself, so she could leave him for good. Now she had also done that and all in the space of a single year.

Here in this diary now there were barely any lines of green ink that indicated her emotions on anything to. do with him at all. Though she’d stated she and Laud felt relieved and happy for the first time in a long time, that was all that was documented, after the statement about the Alpha Council.

He was kind of numb right now. There was nothing wrong with her heat cycle at all, she’s simply found a way to stop it so she wouldn’t have to be mated through it by him. Everyone knew the pain of it wasn’t so bad.

She’d never once believed his words of he wouldn’t abandon her to it ever again, regardless of what he’d promised her, because not only wasn’t his word any good to her, but because she knew Christy was going to induce herself into heat to pull him away from her, which she had done, on that very day of Mischa’s heat, something Dr Dana Reed had told Mischa, Christy was likely to do, even a complete stranger could see Christy for what she was, only he was blinded to who she was.

He wanted to close this book and read no more. What was the point? All his failings were already there in full, she’d stopped caring months back and was only staying inside the pack to have Christy inflict pain upon herself, because Mischa felt that she deserved it.

Shade forced his hand and made him stay put, ‘Finish it, his wolf snarled at him.

I’m tired: I need sleep. I’ve been here all afternoon and all night, the sun is coming up.’ and it was he could see the first rays of light in the window of the study. It had taken him 16 hours to read what he’d gotten through already and if he was completely honest with himself he didn’t want to read anymore.

‘So what, it’s not like you can’t pull all-nighters for sex with that traitorous bitch we claimed and ruined our lives. His own wolf snarled at him and kept him in that chair. ‘There will be no sleep until you read it all.’ his own wolf snarled at him.

Anthony sighed and closed his eyes, only to have Shade force them open and push his will over him to make him turn that next page. There were only five months left of things to r******w.

But there was to come what he didn’t want to read, why he’d opted to want to get up and walk away from this desk, not finish it, her heat in May, was so close to being *******w, and how she felt about it. That with what he’d seen of her that day and how freaked out she’d been, and her trying to run away from him, to stop him from mating her through it.
