The Eclipsed Life of Luna Mischa (by Jennifer Francis) novel Chapter 40

Anthony frowned right at her questioning of him. Most Mates would never question that, just be happy about it and agree. It’s not been months, Mischa.” Anthony sighed.

Outside my heat, you tell me the last time you had dinner with me, just you and I?she asked right back. I know when it was, documented it in my diary, she stated, and she had.

He sighed and didn’t even bother to try and remember he knew she wasn’t lying. Well, I’m here now, please Mischa, let’s go and have dinner. I promise it won’t get interrupted. I’ve already told everyone there will be no interruptions allowed, that the unit can handle whatever it is, if something crops up.

Mm, that will only work now because Christy is in the cells and cuffed with silver so she can’t interruptso I don’t actually think it counts.” She shrugged it off. Knowing that was the only reason he’d get no interruptions.

Please Mischa, just you and me, it is what I want,” he told her.

She shook her head. “I’m sure it is what you want,” she stated, as she thought about that very thing, likely only what he wanted because Christy couldn’t be right here with him, he wasn’t used to being alone was all. We can test that very thing.Laud told her, have the dinner, release Christy from that cuff. Let’s just see if he really does want it to just be us.’

Fine,” Mischa stated. Laud wants to have dinner with you and ShadeI’ll go and change.

Yes, let’s see if it would get interrupted. She watched Anthony smile at her words of Laud wanting to spend time with him and his wolf and he stepped up to her as if to walk with her, I don’t need an escort, I’ll meet you there. I’d like my favorite meal, not whatever you’ve set up, she told him and walked away from him.

She connected herself to the pack chef and all the kitchen staff, Hi, I need a favor, do not tell the Alpha what my favorite meal is, when he comes and asks you to prepare it for dinner. Ask him instead to tell you what it is, that you’ll, of course, make whatever he tells you to. That you don’t know because I eat in the pack dining room with everyone else or cook for myself in my suite.’

Yes, LunaCame back to her from all of them. She knew none would question her, and it was actually true. She didn’t ask the pack chef to create her separate meals, there was always plenty to choose from in the dining room.

Then she connected herself to the cell guards, Hi, could you please remove Christy’s silver cuff? In say 40 minutes, I noticed how cold it was in the cells this morning, and being that she is to remain a Luna of this pack, it’s a curtesy to be granted to her. Please remind her

she’s still not allowed to connect a mindlink to anyone.

Are you certain Luna?Tommy commented.

‘Yes, Anthony and I will be attempting to fix things between us, so please inform her that I will be with him 24/7 for the next eight weeks, and so I will know if she does this. That for every time she mindlinks to Anthony, I’ll be adding an extra day in the cells for her.’

Yes Luna, Tommy stated, and she dropped the mindlink.

Let’s just see if that shewolf would interrupt them having dinner. Yes, she was setting both of them up to fail and likely miserably so, but it was also Laud who wanted to know if her Mate could do it; spend uninterrupted time with just them. There was doubt not only in Mischa but her beast as well.

She knew that Anthony, being the Alpha, could, at will, ignore and reject anyone trying to connect a mindlink to him, as much as she could. After his words to her about no interruptions, that the unit would handle everything. If a mindlink connected to him now, she’d know who it was and that was the very point of this exercise. Not just to see Christy be all jealous and mindlink to him but to see if his own words were truthful.

He’d stated no one would interrupt, and it was always what he told her, but he also always allowed Christy to not only interrupt but interfere as well. He’d usually excuse himself and get up and leave to go to see Christy for whatever fake reason she needed him.

Mischa was indeed setting him up to fail, because he also knew Christy was in the cells and not allowed to mindlink to anyone, so if he let it connect, he was not following pack laws himself, proving to her that he couldn’t ignore Christy even when he knew she was a prisoner

in the cells.

Mischa was even a little happy about setting him and Christy up to fail. As his Mate, she

should never want to do that, but now she thought it was time to see his true colors. All the utter ugliness of who he’d become since being granted that second Mate.

If he really meant those words, he would in fact ignore and dismiss Christy’s mindlink without a second thought. Even if he was curious as to why she could do such a thing, he could ignore and dismiss Christy and look at Mischa and ask her why, suddenly Christy wasn’t cuffed with silver. State he knew that because she’d attempted to connect with him or ask her what was going on when he felt Christy reconnect that pack tether to himself as the

silver came off.

She changed into a simple but nice dress, that showed off her curves and made her way back to the private dining room, where she saw that it was set up with what she knew was supposed to be romantic lighting; a candlelit dinner for two.

There were white flowers in the center of the table and the table was laid out with a deep maroon table cloth with their fine china and cut crystal glasses, a bottle of wine she could see was chilling in an ice bucket, and there was soft romantic music playing in the background.

She reached her hand out and turned the lighting all the way up to its normal brightness and Anthony frowned at her. She stated simply, I don’t think we need dimly lit lighting. It’s just dinner not seduction.

It could be.He smiled at her.

Mischa raised an eyebrow at him, Do you really think I’m at all interested in having sex with you? After what you did to me. I agreed not to reject you, but I never agreed to anything else between us,” she told him flatly.

Mischa, we’re still Mates, and I’d like to spend the next couple of months making it up to you. It’ll be like the old days when it was just you and me all the time. Won’t that be nice.

Once upon a time, she too would have thought so, but not anymore. And a couple of months? That just meant to her, only until Christy was released from her cell and nothing more. How many months?she asked as she sat herself down at the table.

I didn’t put a number on it.Anthony frowned right away.

Two?she questioned and then held up a hand as a mindlink connected to her.

Luna, the cuff is off, I have also relayed your message to Christy.Tommy told her.

Thank you, Tommy. She stated and dropped the link.

Anthony was staring at her now, looked unhappy as well. No interruptions,he stated.

Hmm, none to you,” she nodded. I never agreed none on my end. That report, as brief as it was, was actually important, she told him, and it was; to her.

She could see he was annoyed by this small 10second interruption, and even more unhappy about her response as well. Well, now he could have a taste of his own medicine. He said nothing at all, just offered to pour her a glass of wine.

She accepted it, though as he poured it, she stated, I actually prefer red wine, or have you forgotten that?

I have notWhite is better paired with the food I’ve chosen, that is all.Anthony commented, and then poured himself a glass and sat himself in his seat. About a minute after he sat, she saw his head tilt ever so slightly and a slight frown creased his brow, and she knew he’d just felt his tether to Christy being reestablished.

Mischa picked up that glass of wine and sipped it as his eyes moved right to hers, and she smiled right at him. What?she asked. You don’t look too happy over there, does something need your attention?she asked, and even she heard the undisguised amusement lacing her words.

No.he stated.

Mischa knew he would feel that tether snap back into place, because she herself had been cut off from him for the past two weeks, and she’d felt the moment that silver had come off him. It had happened for her on the way back from speaking with Christy in the cells this morning.

It would be no different for him, reconnecting with Christy. Though he wouldn’t have felt the utter disconnection from Christy for as long as he’d had with Mischa, simply because he’d had Christy out there next to him on that shaming post and been able to see her every minute of the day and night for those five days she’d spent out there. He’d only really been completely cut off from her for the time Christy had been in the cells.

I wish you luckshe thought to herself, because she knew Tommy would have relayed her words exactly as she’d stated them. That those under pack punishment weren’t allowed to have visitors or mindlink to those in the pack, Mate’s, kin or otherwise. Christy would also know this, it was a common law with all packs, it wasn’t really any different to one being on the shaming post.

She sipped her wine as the entrées arrived, pesto chicken flat bread. She could see that Anthony wanted to ask her the question as to why he could suddenly feel Christy, but he likely also knew that after her words today, about all he could talk about was Christy.

He wasn’t likely about to bring her up at this dinner. It would only make her angry or have her accuse him of only being concerned about Christy once more. But she was certain that it was only just a matter of time before it happened, or Christy interrupted them unhappy about Anthony and Mischa spending time together.

What did you decide to do about the mating ball?she asked casually as the entrée was taken away.
